Surprise chapter because it's muh b-day! :3

"But, daaad!" The aggravated princess whined to her father who was completely unmoved by his daughter's pleas.

The king crossed his arms as he glared into her eyes, giving off the strong implication that his opinion wasn't going to change any time soon. "Absolutely not! Your mother and I have repeatedly warned you about those...those..."

"Those skeevy Glooms!" Bashful the royal advisor chimed into their conversation, which startled the life out of King Starchbottom.

"AGH! Bashful, wh-where did you come from?!" Starchy fiercely asked the little hider. Bashful, completely taken aback from Starchbottom's fuming attitude towards him, slowly approached him with a long roll of paper that touched the ground clutched in his hands.

"W-well, I finished my chores for the day, your highness."

Hearing this, Starchbottom softened his expression. But before tending to his advisor, he turned back to his daughter only to notice she was nowhere to be found.

"Now where has she disappeared to?" He grumbled to both himself and Bashful. He assumed that she couldn't have gone too far in a matter of seconds, so he decided to raise his voice loud enough for anyone standing within a couple of metres of him to hear his words clearly. "THIS CONVERSATION IS NOT OVER, YOUNG LADY!"

Bashful shielded his ears from Starchy's booming voice, not caring about his scroll dropping onto the floor. He detested it when Starchy raised his voice at his children. Of course it was well justified most of the time due to them inheriting their mother's silliness and subtle naughtiness. But other times it was a bit over the top. Bashful fully understood how Starchbottom's severe anxiety constantly triggered his urge to keep his children safe and sound as much as possible. The king hasn't let down his guard for the past fourteen years he has been a father.

What Bashful couldn't understand was how Starchy had become so overprotective to the point where he won't even let his daughter go hang out with her friends outside the castle on Saturday nights, the only free time the kid had from being a princess, though, one of her friends was a Gloom kid. But no trouble had brewed between the Glooms and the Gerkins in the three to four years they have been friends...so far. As for Queen Delightful, although she didn't display it as bluntly as her husband, she did share his concerns about her daughter having a relationship with a Gloom. But nevertheless, she was content with seeing Excellent enjoying herself, and she trusted her to recognise danger when it approached her, and Bleak Gloom didn't seem to pose any sort of threat to Excellent or the rest of the royal family.

Bashful uncovered his ears to continue the conversation with the irritated King. "U-uh, Starchy- I mean, your majesty, w-would you like me to go over what I have completed for today?" He asked cautiously as he gazed at Starchy while he rubbed his temples to ease an oncoming migraine.

"No, no, don't bother. Why don't you just go back home and take the rest of the night off, huh? We'll go over everything tomorrow. Right now I have to deal with this situation." King Starchbottom halfheartedly muttered without ever glancing at the advisor. Instead, he began his slow migration through the castle's massive corridors with no particular destination in mind. Bashful followed him, but kept his distance.

"Is there anything else I can do? I can...I can help Queen Delightful with whatever she needs." The timid dwarf suggested with a smirk, but Starchy ignored him as he was certainly in no mood for 7D shenanigans tonight, especially from Bashful. "JUST...go home, Bashful. Right now I need to figure out how to convince Excellent to stay away from that...kid." Starchbottom growled through gritted teeth, struggling to keep his composure.
