BACK INTO JOSEPHINE'S MEMORIES

I was the best Shadowhunter out of them all, though nobody knew why. I was the strongest, fastest, and I learned faster than anyone else. I graduated and became a respected member of the council within months. I wasn't mentioned very often because the Clave was embarrassed that I was better than most of the adults. They kept me studying, away from all the action...

A fire message flew through the air and landed in my hand. 'Beware of your 14th birthday. Idris is not safe for you.'

I ran to the Inquisitor.

"Madam Inquisitor, I just received this fire message. It does not say who it is from." I handed it to her.

"I see. We'll have to send you elsewhere." Her phone went off. 

"What is it Madam Inquisitor?"

"Lydia Branwell is dead. You will be her replacement. Pack your bags, Miss Maxwell."

I walked to my room and packed everything that I would be needing. Another Shadowhunter came up to me and handed me a note from the Inquisitor once I stepped out of my room. It warned me about everything that might happen, what to tell the Clave about. I put it in my bag and walked through the portal they had waiting.

ALEC'S POV IRL

Her hands were off of our foreheads.

I took a deep breath. "That was a lot to take in. So, you were in a magic induced coma for how many years?"

"I don't know exactly because it slowed my aging process so much that time isn't an issue." She smiled. "Either way, I'll be fourteen in a few days here. Since I'm not in Idris, I should be safe, right?"

Magnus looked thoughtful. "We should have a birthday party for you. Wouldn't that be fun?" He flicked his wrists and invitations were sent out in a puff of glitter.

I shook my head. "Magnus, what are you doing?"

"She hasn't had a birthday party in over a decade. She might as well have one now. And who knows, the beware your 14th birthday could have been a prophecy for me. Beware Magnus Bane's parties. Mystery solved, Alexander." He smiled.

Josephine looked uncertain. "Who all would be coming?"

"Me, Alexander, Jace, Clary, Simon, and Isabelle. It would be nice to get to know the team that you'll be working with the most before you have to work with them. Won't it?"

She nodded. I sighed. Well, this should be a life lesson for her, never let Magnus throw you a party.

THE PARTY

Magnus was rushing about his apartment making last minute adjustments before everyone arrived. He told me not to make a sound or it would wreck his party mood and then he would have to make out with me on the couch. Not that I would have minded that, but I don't want to ruin someone else's party.

There was a knock on the door Magnus snapped his fingers and people came filing in. 

We talked and ate for hours. We sang karaoke and played games. It was a really amazing birthday party.

Jo stood up. "Exactly 30 seconds until I'm 14."

We started to count down. She was going to blow out her candles at the exact moment we hit zero.

"10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1...0!" We shouted. She collapsed and started convulsing.

Sorry this one is so short. I just wanted to publish something quickly here and leave you in suspense. lol, sorry about that.
