Hey all! Sorry I haven't posted for a few weeks. I've had some doctors appointments and such. Enjoy!

ALEC'S POV

I guess we were trapping a greater demon. This was going to be fun. Magnus had been running around all day trying to find everything he needed to perform the spell. I had been sitting around on the couch doing nothing all day long.

"Do not move, Alexander!" Magnus yelled as he raced into a room and slammed the door shut. I stood up immediately and ran to the door, he had magicked it shut. I tried an unlock rune and it didn't work. I heard yelling and the swish of a Seelie sword. I was pounding on the door yelling for Magnus to open up. There was an explosion and I got blasted backward as the doors flew open.

Magnus hit the ground with a thud. I looked in the room, the demon was gone and the Seelie was dead. I think that the ritual had gone through. I heard Magnus groan and I ran over to his side.

"Magnus! MAGNUS!" He lost consciousness. I pulled out my phone. "Come on, come on Clary. Pick up!"

"Hello?" Thank goodness.

"Clary, you need to portal over to Magnus's right now. He's hurt and he won't wake up. Come quick!" I was so frantic.

I heard her moving around to get her stele, I heard the whoosh of the portal opening and there she was, standing right in front of me. She made another portal and threw all three of us into it. We were sent to the Institute and landed on the floor of the Ops Center. Shadowhunters began moving in all directions and Magnus got moved to the med bay. I was terrified of what was going to happen. What happened that would have made Magnus collapse?

I heard a yell, "ALEXANDER!" It was Magnus, he was alive. I breathed a sigh of relief and walked into the room. He looked panicked.

"What happened, Alexander? You need to tell me now." He had cat eyes instead of the soft brown ones I had been used to and they were narrowed into slits.

"Um, well-" I was cut off as someone else was rushed into the room.

It was Lydia, they laid her on the bed and began working immediately. I stared in shock as one of the doctors came up to me and shook his head. Another put a cloth over her face. She had a stab wound in her stomach. But how?

Magnus cleared his throat, expectant. "Um, well what?"

"There was the sound of a Seelie sword being drawn, a body dropping, yelling, and an explosion. Why, what's going on?" I sucked in a deep breath.

"The Seelie Queen had other plans, she wanted a person from each clan, so to speak. A Werewolf, Vampire, Seelie, Warlock, and Shadowhunter to die. Each the head of their own. The Seelie had begun the ritual when I realized what was going on. There was no way to reverse it, so I began the ceremony. Luckily, the only casualty was Miss Branwell. I am truly sorry Alexander." He looked genuinely concerned and saddened by Lydia's death.

"My only hope is that I will be the head of the institute next. If not, I don't know what will be coming next." I sighed. "Are you well enough to come with me?"

Magnus smiled. "Always."

We walked out of there, away from Lydia and into the Ops Center. Clary, Izzy, and Jace were all waiting.

"Any word from the Clave concerning Lydia?" I looked at all three of them. They shook their heads.

The whoosh of a portal opening caught everyone's attention. We all turned to look at the source of the sound. There was a small girl who was about 13 walking away from the closing portal. She walked straight up to me.

"I am truly sorry for the loss of Miss Branwell. I am even more sorry about what is about to happen." She motioned for us to follow her. "I would like to take this into the office if that's alright with you?"

I nodded and we proceeded to walk to Lydia's old office. We stepped inside and she went and stood behind the desk.

"I am the replacement that has been sent for Lydia. My name is Josephine Maxwell." She held out her hand. She had a grip of steel and her eye contact was unwavering. I was the first to look away.

"Excuse my manners, but that's not a traditional Shadowhunter name." Izzy had stepped forward. "Also, I'm not seeing any runes. What's not to say you aren't who you say you are?"

She smiled. "Nothing, but I expect you will be receiving a fire message soon..." She trailed off as I caught one. "I have something to say for all of you. I don't want to be here. I don't want to be the head of the institute. The Clave has instructed me on some of your... habits. As long as you run everything you do by me, I don't care what you do. If anything out of line happens, I have to take care of it whether you like it or not."

I held out my hand. "It's a deal."
