The Outsider

After putting on my red skirt, along with its matching top, I headed downstairs, already a little late. Coming round the corner, Haley sees me first,
"What are you wearing? You have to wear the uniform!", she exclaims in a shocked tone though I can see the grin building up on her face,
"Go and change now", Leo states to which I respond with a,
"Fuck no, I look good", changing the subject I ask,
"Are those chocolate chip cookies?",
"Yes they are", Haley replies knowingly
"Yay",I state.
"Jackie gave them to me",
"Which ones Jackie?", I sheepishly question, looking between the blond and the brunette, the blond raises her hand and I shoot a smile her way.

"You guys are so lucky, I'd give anything to see the launch today.", the brunette, who's name I now know to be Emma, states,
"Alex refused to go, want my ticket for free?", Haley smiles
"Absolutely not. Hayley and Bea are NASA's guest of honor because of her mother. Bea what the hell are you wearing?, never mind just go change", Jason demand, "Now!", he continues when I don't move,
"Can't we're already late. Don't wanna miss the launch do you?", I question with a smirk on my face,
"Come on. Car's outside.", Jason states angrily as he quickly storms off outside into the car, earning looks of disbelief from the Ravens surrounding me.
"This is gonna be torture.", Haley whispers to myself and Jackie,
"You'll be fine.", Jackie reassures,
"Unlikely", I start, "if I die of high irritation levels, please don't let Alex sell my vinyls", I practically plead, earning a smile and nod of Jackie.

Ten minutes into this car journey spent in complete and utter silence are pissing me off, connecting my Louis to the car via Bluetooth I begin to blast, Thotiana.

Haley and Leo burst into laughter as I join in with the lyrics turning the music up louder and louder as Jason tries to turn it off, finally finding the Bluetooth button he shuts it off while sending me a scathing look and the car plunged into silence again.

Stepping out of the car and into the building was the biggest relief I've felt in my entire life.

"Hayley! Bea!", our attention was grabbed by Brandon Thomas,
"Hi.", Haley says,
"Hello", I reply politely while shacking his hand,
"Look at you, in your Greenhouse uniform. You look so much like your mother, and you breaking rules as always, you were always the trouble child and I mean that in the best way possible", he states fondly,
"Thank you.", myself and Haley reply in unison,
"Hi. Leo Cruz.", he steps forward, hand out for a shake, as he introduces himself,
"Captain of the Ravens. Very impressive.", Brandon starts while shaking Leo's hand, "and I hear you're now captain of the Eagles Bea", he inquires to which I nod before Jason pushes his way forward,
"Jason Osmond, dean of the Greenhouse, honour to meet you.",
"You're Louis' kid.", at this I burst into laughter while trying to hide it behind my hand,
"So, how is your dad doing?", he questions,
"He's good.", Haley states
"Thank you for asking.", I continue,
"Good.", Jason once again pushes forwards,
"So, since Hayley and Bea here are NASA's guests of honor, we were hoping for a little VIP tour around the facility.", the hope in his voice is palpable,
"Maybe some other time. I think you can tell we're a little busy at the moment."
"Of course, of course.", Jason nods disappointedly
"Tell Carter I said hi, and Alex, too. In the meantime, make yourselves at home. I promise you, this is the best view in the house.", at this Brandon excits,
"Thank you.", Leo states, ever the polite one,
"Listen, I gotta go to the bathroom. Stay in this area. Anywhere else is restricted. I'll be right back."
"Okay. Good luck in there.", Leo says causing me to raise an eyebrow,

Brandon Thomas got up on stage and began to speak,
"In 1962, seven years before the first man walked on the moon, President Kennedy said, "We set sail on this new sea because there is new knowledge to be gained.
" Kennedy did not live to see his dream However, more than 50 years later, our very own Dr.
Ryan Woods inspired us to set sail on this vast ocean once again.
Without her work, this satellite would not exist.
So, at this time, when our newest satellite is ready to launch, let us all honor this brave woman who gave her life so that our country's space program could continue to progress.
Ryan, if you were here with us today, I'm sure you would be as excited as I am, right after you told me how boring my speech was.", my mom would have hated this I think as I try and push the tears back,

"One last thing Today, we are honored to have Dr. Ryan Woods' daughters here with us. Ladies and gentlemen, Ms.Bea Woods and Ms.Hayley Woods.
Please, no A toast to you and to our new satellite.
Good luck to us all.
Thank you.", everyone's attention was drawn to us and many sympathetic looks were shot doing my best to show a small smile I ignore them as Haley walks off Leo not far behind.

"Five, four, three, two, one."my heart begins to pound as a sick feeling washes over me and my eyes start to sting,
"Liftoff.", the satellite successfully launches and yet it gives me no feeling of relief cause it won't bring my mom back.

Walking over to Leo and Haley I state,
"Jason's waiting for us outside.", and I walk off giving them some time.
My Louis begins to ring,
"Hello", I answer
"Hey Bea", it's Daniel about the put the phone down I hear an exclamation of,
"Wait, listen I know I haven't been a good good friend lately", he starts before I interrupt,
"Bad friend, try dickhead",
"Okay yes I have been a dickhead recently but I just wanted to checkup on you cause I know that must have been hard for you",
"Well thanks, goodbye and your forgiven", I say before quickly putting the phone down.

Back at the greenhouse it's confirmed that NASA lost contact with the satellite.
What a fucking joke.
