Authors note: Hey so sorry about saying "tomorrows chapter" almost an entire year ago aha. Totally forgot about this. Anyway, imma try to be more active on this but no promises. I will finish this because I actually know how I want it to go now so I'll have a real storyline here. Anyway enjoy and sorry it's been s long. Also, keep in mind I started this as a younging and looking back I see how silly and dumb it sounds but I find so much comedy in this primitive writing and I hope you do too lmao. anyways back to the story...
"Lucy you have to give that note to the police!" Cleo broke the silent sobbing.
"No fucking way they'll hurt you!" Lucy tore up the note and shoved it in her pocket. "Let's just go, I'm done talking with these people." She took Cleo's hand and headed out of the school with Cleo's family.
The rest of the night was quiet. Cleo and Lucy stayed upstairs playing games and scrolling through their phones trying to forget the disturbing day they had experienced. Suddenly Lucy gets a text and jumps as her phone buzzes. Seeing that she was still having trouble with what had happened, Cleo comes up next to her friend and takes the phone for her.
"It's from Flynn. He wants to make sure you're okay." Cleo says as she checks her friend's notifications., "also, your dad texted you asking where you went, did you not tell him?"
"Nah I didn't feel like telling him, he can ask my mom," Lucy responded facing away from Cleo and the phone.
"Do you want t o to respond to Flynn?" Cleo asked.
"No, it's better if I distance myself from him," Lucy explained, "he could get hurt and I don't want to be the reason why." Cleo hated seeing her friend in pain but she figured staying away would be the best way to keep everyone safe.
"It'll be okay Lucy, you'll get through this and you have me." Cleo held her friend as they drifted to sleep knowing they'd have to battle another day of school the next morning.
Morning came far too quickly and suddenly they were on their way to school. Lucy occasionally got lost in her thoughts on the walk and would flinch as Cleo tried to snap her out of it. It was obvious Lucy was in no place to attend school, but her parents would've forced her regardless. They headed into the building, avoiding the Flynn in the parking lot. He had been waiting for Lucy. He had messaged Lucy 12 times through the night trying to get a response. He finally gave in and said he'd see her in the parking lot before school, but Lucy wasn't ready to face him.
Everything seemed to be running smoothly. The teachers left the girls alone, knowing what had happened the day prior. They hadn't run into anyone that would be problematic and seemed to just cruise through the day until lunch hit. Suddenly they would have to face everyone they were attempting to avoid. Lucy didn't want to be around Flynn and so Cleo agreed to stay away from Derrek as well. It was just them for the time being and that had been the agreement, but now both boys as well as mutuals would be in there and would likely bombard them with questions.
"We should just hide in the library..." Lucy was shaking.
"We need to get our lunch though," Cleo reminded her, "You really shouldn't skip meals, especially in this state."
"Fine. In and out though." Lucy agreed
In and out," Cleo smiled.
They pushed the doors simultaneously and walked a few steps in before scanning the area. The lunchroom was chaotic. Teenagers running around throwing food and various objects while gossiping and laughing and crying over whatever drama. A few people stared. By now everyone knew it was Lucy who saw the body and rumors were floating around.
"Do you think it was her?"
"Didn't they hurt her? bet it was revenge!"
"She probably wasn't even the one who saw it. Faker"
Cleo could hear them which meant her friend could too. Her blood boiled, she was tempted to scream, but she remained calm as her goal was to conceal her friend from Flynn and friends. They looked around until lucy pointed out Flynn from behind Cleo. They walked around the opposite side of the lunchroom and headed into line for lunch. They grabbed their food and paid. By the time they were at the register, they noticed Flynn just getting into line and talking to friends in the back. Relieved, Cleo and Lucy rushed out hoping to get away from the lunchroom, but just then Cleo smacks into someone falling back with her food and taking out Lucy in the process.
"YOU HAVE GOT TO BE FUCKING KIDDING ME!?" Cleo was seriously pissed and ready to go off at the person who knocked her over, but as she wiped the food from her eyes she came to realize the person in front of her. Cleo's mood changed quicker than ever before. She jumped up and squealed.
Meanwhile, Lucy was on the floor still processing what had happened when she noticed Flynn at her side. Of course, Cleo's tantrum had given their position away.
"Are you okay?" He helped her up.
"I'm fine.." Lucy was quiet.
"You avoiding me?" He asked, "It's okay, don't answer until your ready." He gave her a quick hug and waved goodbye before returning to the lunch line.
Lucy smiled and for the first time all day, she stopped shaking. She looked over to see her best friend covered in food but to her surprise, Cleo wasn't yelling. Instead, she was hugging someone. Lucy couldn't quite see who it was until Cleo pulled away to talk to the girl she had been hugging. Finally, it had registered that the person in front of her was a friend. She jumped into their arms hugging them as tight as possible.....
