I can't have him

Chapter 7

All lucy could think about were the words on that paper. 

"I told you to stay away from him".

"Lucy," Kira shook her friend, "girl snap out of it." Lucy had been spacing out. School had gone by and the three girls were headed to Cleo's. They decided they needed some time alone in a private place for once. The creepy messages, the murders, and the terrible romance was starting to weigh them all down to a scary place.

They reached Cleo's house and went straight to her room. They all really needed a space to vent and go over what had happened. Kira had a weight on her chest. She had been keeping things bottled and she was about ready to explode.

"I can't hide this any more guys," Kira broke the silence, "I want to tell you what happened last year." The girls looked at each other and nodded, they were ready to finally get the whole story. She started by reminding the girls of the friend she had lost.

At the age of 5, Kira had a best friend named Stephen. They were at the park across the street from where they lived at the time and had been playing a game. When Kira's mother called her back she crossed the street. Stephen realized he left the ball and crossed back over to the park. While Kira waited for her friend to return she heard her mom call again. Kira had turned her head for a moment to respond to her mother. Turning back she watched Stephen run back across to her. 

At that very moment though a truck was speeding down the road. Stephen was crushed right in front of Kira. The ball, covered in blood rolled to Kira. She looked down picked up the ball and walked over to her friend. She shook him, and she wiped the blood away. She asked him to wake up and when he wouldn't respond, she called her mother over. After that, she was pulled and kept away. She saw flashing lights from her window that night, heard sirens blare, and never again had she seen Stephen. 

She moved shortly after and had a hard time talking to others. She developed social anxiety and told anyone who came near her that "all my friends die". That was enough to scare off most kids, but by the time she reached the seventh grade, Cleo had found her. She tried to push Cleo away, but instead, Cleo attracted Lucy. They eventually had become good friends and Kira explained that a friend of hers had passed away, but never revealed what actually happened.

"You must wonder what this has to do with that accident?" Kira said. The girls nodded, other than the gory details, they knew of her past trauma and never pressed her or the details. She went on and brought up a boy she had been with during their friendship. In the eighth grade, Kira began to date a boy named Dino. Dino used to yell and hurt Kira though, and while she was blind to it, the girls were very aware. 

At some point during the relationship, Kira was at the store and was about to leave when in the distance she saw a boy. She swore she saw him and fell over. She had a panic attack and started to get confused, but she was sure she saw him. She had seen Stephen in the parking lot walking towards her. She passed out and ended up being brought home. She swore up and down she saw him and yet her mother said no one was there. She told Dino, but he called her crazy and told her to shut up. She would go to the store with Dino and just frantically look around.

Eventually, Cleo and Lucy convinced Kira to break it off with Dino and she did. He was extremely angry and she tried her best to avoid him. He wouldn't leave her alone though. He would send her messages calling her a slut or desperate. He'd try to manipulate her and tell her he would love her if she did this or changed that. He'd get her alone and hit her or worse. She kept it all a secret. She didn't want to burden anyone and worse she didn't want someone she loved to die again.

Eventually came the day of the accident. Kira was at the store alone because her mother needed something but was still at work. On her way there she noticed Dino leaving his car. He hadn't seen her and she ducked behind a car. She waited till he turned the corner with his family before coming out. She stood at the side of the building trying to calm down. All her fear had been building up and she felt like she was trapped. A car started to turn the corner. They were driving fast, blasting music. Kira took a step forward, not thinking at all.

Suddenly, two arms wrapped around her and pulled her back. They whipped her around and started to scream. She was trying to process what had happened. She looked up and saw Stephen's face. 

"Stephen?" She mumbled. She immediately rubbed her eyes and looked back, but this time it wasn't Stephen's face, it was Dino's.

"WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU? WHY'D YOU TRY TO WALK IN FRONT OF A CAR? ARE YOU AN IDIOT?" He was screaming relentlessly, "Ya know I thought I saw you hide like a fucking coward! and Stephan? You're still obsessing over your dead friend?" he looked over to the road and back at her, "fine then join him!" He pushed her back and ran. The last thing she saw were the headlights.

"It was your ex, Dino!?" Cleo couldn't contain her anger, "He fucking pushed you into the car?! God I should have known, I should have known he was a terrible person and that he was hurting you, I'm so sorry." 

"It wasn't your fault, I should've spoken up, but I've moved on and fortunately he moved away." Kira explained, "but I can't help but wonder if maybe it's him? Is he angry at me and taking it out on you two? There's a motive, but the creepy notes are throwing me off."

"I don't think so," Lucy explained, "It wasn't clear to anyone on whether or not you were dead until the start of school and by then Dino was gone. Also, they seem to be obsessed with me. They killed the two who tried to sexually assault me and then the girl who threatened me."

"Then maybe the notes are to throw us off," Cleo suggested, "we've been looking at it as the murderer wants the boys we like, whereas, we should be looking at it as the murder wants you."

"You think it's Flynn?" Kira suggested.

"What?!" Lucy looked puzzled.

"I saw him rush to you in the lunchroom and I know he's the boy you have a thing for" Kira explained.

"how-" Lucy started, but was cut off.

"You're pretty easy to read. I could tell you liked him and he likes you." Kira went on, "Where was he both times?"

"It can't be him because I was with him at lunch on the day Butch and Brady died!" Lucy said.

"No you were in the bathroom and you found the bodies like a half-hour later, so he could've done it by then," Kira explained.

"Okay, but he wasn't even at the roller rink," Cleo stated.

"He could've been," Kira started, "if he's so obsessed with her, he's very likely stalking her and probably watches her. When did you get his number?"

"I- oh my god I didn't have his number when Butch and Brady died," Lucy realized, "I only had his socials until after the murder! He could've been the creepy text message."

"Still not enough evidence, but we'll keep our eye on him. Maybe spend some time with him, if you feel safe enough." Cleo suggested.

"No, I'll do it, I'm sick of this psycho hurting people," Lucy stated, "I'm gonna figure this out." She grabbed her phone, texted Flynn, and asked to go out the following Saturday. She was gonna see what happened. Her friends were gonna tail them and figure out all they could.
