Patrick doesn't have too much to pack, so Pete let him sleep while he packed Patrick's things. The clothing didn't take longer than ten minutes to box up. Hats and shoes barely took five, and the rest remained in their boxes.

Pete places them all by the door, the last one being a box labeled Special Things. It's in Patrick's cute little handwriting, and Pete wants to look inside.

After a quick glance at Patrick, who seems to be out cold, Pete carefully opens the cardboard top.

On the top is a binder full of personal documents. Social security. Birth certificate. Diploma. There's Patrick's, then his mother's, and then his fathers.

Pete peeks over to Patrick before grabbing the next item. It's another binder. Pete opens this one, and there's some cursive written on varying pieces of stationary. Lined paper. Printer paper. Construction paper. Sticky notes. Index cards. Long rectangular pieces. It differs every time.

Pete scans through them, his eyes finding one on a sticky note.

Hey, Sweetie!
I'm grabbing some groceries, won't be long. Lock the doors and grab a snack! I love you so much, Patrick.

Pete flips again.

Hey, honey!
I know the new apartment is hard to get use to, but I'm so proud of you for hanging in there. You're the best son a mom could ask for. I'm grabbing some celebratory donuts from the Dunkin Donuts down the street. Be back soon!
I love you so much.

Pete's chest grows heavy. She seemed so kind and gentle. She genuinely cared. She always said she loved him like she never knew whether or not it'd be the last time. Pete reads on, to one dated three months after the last.

Hey, Pumpkin...
I know you're not happy with me right now. We've got to move again, I know it's hard. One day it'll make sense, baby, I promise. We'll make it through, sweetheart. We will. It'll get better. Come down for dinner whenever you want. I'll be right here to warm it up for you. I'm sorry life is like this. But we'll have each other forever. Just you and me. I love you so much. Never forget it.
