What now?

Once the ladder broke off Liam gripped on to it for dear life as it continued to fall. it was almost like he couldn't even feel himself fall but he could hear the wind rushed by him.

He wanted to scream but nothing came out endless seconds went by and all he was thinking was "don't let me die..."

The ladder hit bottom, Liam (yet again) hit the ground hard as the ladder exploded all around him, tiny bits of the ladder hit his face and clattering so loud it made his ears ring.

To make it worst zayn landed on top of him. the impact just went straight to his stomach and chest. his breath was knocked out of him, his lungs felt frozen in place. he couldn't breath!

Breath!

Zayn groaned and he realized what he landed on and quickly got off him and he was panicking a bit too.

Little heaving noises came from Liam's throat, did he break his ribs maybe punctured a lung!?

"Liam?" came zayn'a voice "Liam are you alright?"

He seemed very far away.

"Liam?"

Zayn was starting to panic, what was going on with Liam!? So he grabbed a hold of Liam's shoulders and started shaking him.

"Liam answer me!". Liam gave one last mighty effort to breath, willing his lungs to open and let him live. Then he finally got in a deep breath, the stinking underground air never tasted so good.

"I'm okay... I'm okay" he reassured zayn "I think" he sat up with the help of zayn then the horrible memories came back. Harry, basically being crumbling up like a piece of paper and carted away by that thing. and there was nothing they could do about it.

"Oh zayn-" he threw his arms around him and hugged him.

"I can't take this anymore" he whispered. zayn's arms closed around him.

"It's okay" he said "your okay"

"When is this going to end?" Liam whimpered. zayn hesitated,

"I don't know". Liam was grateful that zayn was there to comfort him cause he was so close to breaking down.

"Help me!!". a voice came for above them. zayn and Liam were to caught up in there own little world they forgot someone, Niall.

Zayn helped Liam up and and they gazed up to see Niall dangling from the last rung where the metal had snapped off.

"Get me down!" Niall cried.

"Climb up" zayn replied "go for help"

"I can't! my fingers are numb. I can't hold on!". even in the gloom, Liam saw that Niall wasn't kidding. he really was hanging by his fingers.

Zayn grumbled in frustration, he started looking through the remains of the ladder.

"What are you doing?" Liam asked leaning against the wall.

"Looking for a piece I can use" zayn muttered. he threw a shard of metal away. "there's nothing"

Liam had an idea "what if he just lets go?"

Zayn gaped at him "are you crazy?"

"You can catch him" Liam replied. he knew it wasn't much of an idea, but they didn't have many choices.

"Zayn!" Niall screamed.

"Come on Zayn you can do this" Liam said as he put his hand on zayn's shoulder.

"I hope your right" Zayn whispered.

"Come on already!" Niall screamed.

"Okay Niall" Zayn yelled. "let go"

"You can't be serious!"

"I'll catch you"

"I'm not letting go!" he argued.

"Your going to fall anyway" Liam pointed out.

"Thanks for the tip!" He yelled back with anger in his voice.

"Niall listen to me" Zayn ordered "Liam's right, he's fallen down the shaft twice and he's okay, so let go, I'll catch you"

"You promise?"

"What did I just say" Zayn replied.

"I don't want to die" Niall moaned "I just want to climb up"

"But you can't" Liam said.

"You think I don't know that! you moron! are you deaf?" Liam bit back his reply, I seriously have to cut him some slack, he scared, heck were all scared...

"Niall will you quit stalling and let go! now!". Niall adjusted his grip on the rung, his fingers flexing stiffly. "I hate you" he muttered.

"You can do it, just let go" Zayn urged.

"No"

"Niall if you trust me then you'll let go and I promise you that I will catch you". Niall thought about for a second then answered. "o-okay"

"Okay ready when you are". finally the guy made up his mind...

"I-I'm ready" Niall said.

"On three" Zayn said "one..."

Niall let out a tiny fearful noise, while Liam had his fingers crossed.

"Two..." Zayn held out his arms.

"Three!". Niall let go...
