There are many forms of government in the world but the most Popular and common among them is the Democratic Government. It might not be the most prevalent form but it surely is the most preferred form of ruling. Abraham Lincoln once truly said,”A democracy is a form of government for the people, by the people and of the people.” India is probably the best example of a purely democratic form of government.
Democracy has been the foundation pillar of our independent country. Over the years the definition of a democratic government has changed leaving behind the original essence behind its idea. India’s definition of a democratic government lies in the right to choose your leader. But it should never be limited to this one single line. A democracy means the right to truth. Every citizen of our country should have the right to know the truth and also have an easy access to it. But it has never been the case in our country where for years now the truth has been hidden from us. Many unsolved mysteries and unanswered questions have now sparked up the fire for this article. Why can’t we as responsible citizens demand the truth from the government? Why can’t we question all the past decisions made by them? Why don’t we know who killed LAL BAHDUR SHASTRI? Why don’t we know the reason behind the sudden disappearance of SUBHASH CHANDRA BOSE? Why don’t we know the reason behind the naming of all the important roads and buildings of our country after the GANDHI FAMILY? Why aren’t the children in school taught that second October is also the birth anniversary of the second Prime Minister of India as well who was a peacemaker in the 1971 war. Why don’t any of the people from our generation know the birth date of SUBHASH CHANDRA BOSE? Have you ever wondered that out of all the freedom fighters and political leaders only a few of them have been really valued after all these years of independence.? Why does nobody talk about the contributions of BAL GANGADHAR TILAK, BHAGAT SINGH, CHANDRASHEKHAR AZAD , VEER SARVAKAR and many other anonymous names who have played an important role in the freedom struggle. Why always GANDHI AND NEHRU? Why not SARDAR VALLABHAI PATEL?
All these years the truth has always been hidden from us. What really happens behind the closed doors of the parliament is always a subject of question. Those who have tried getting the answers to these questions have always been told to shut up or blackmailed and even tortured till death. Exercising your right to vote is not the only duty of a responsible citizen. We as active and responsible citizens should open our eyes and read between the lines.
Yes it might be true that some things are subject to utmost secrecy like the security of our country but things which are directly related with the citizens and their right to truth should never be hidden from them.
Hiding the truth from the people is never going to work. For a democratic government to function properly the citizens and the government need to work hand in hand, together without any complains or grudges. If this condition is not fulfilled then there would be no difference between a monarchy and a democracy. We would be the same as North Korea where the citizens have no fundamental rights. Yes but its also true that misusing your rights would not be tolerated in a country like India. Provoking people towards a wrong idea or a belief is a misuse of the right given to you. Make sure that you don’t reap a seed of hatred towards any community, caste, religion, gender and even towards any government.
The main motive behind this piece of writing is to inculcate an alert and a smarter citizen for the country who will prove to be an asset for the nation in the near future.
