The trio came to a stop at a gas station. Sam and Hermione are looking at a map that is laid out on top of the car. Dean is standing a little bit away from them holding his phone to his ear.
'Ok. I think I found a way we can bypass that construction just east of here. We might even make Pennsylvania faster than we thought,' Sam spoke towards Dean. Dean lowers his phone.
'Yeah. Problem is, we're not going to Pennsylvania,' Dean tells Sam and Hermione.
'We what?'
'I just got a call from an, uh, old friend. Her father was killed last night, think it might be our kind of thing,'
'What?' Sam asks. Hermione gives Dean a questioned look.
'Yeah. Believe me, she never would have called, never, if she didn't need us,' Dean gets into the Impala. 'Come on, are you two coming or not?' Sam and Hermione share a look and get into the car.
The Impala cruises down the road. Fields on one side of the car, a lake on the other.
'By old friend you mean...?' Sam asks.
'A friends that's not new,' Dean responds not taking his eyes of the road.
'Oh yeah, thanks. So her name's Cassie huh? You never mentioned her...'
'Didn't I?' Sam looks at Dean expectantly. In the back seat Hermione is looking at the brothers from the book she was reading. 'Yeah, we went out,' Dean confess.
'You mean you dated somebody? For more than one night,' Sam asks shocked.
'Am I speaking a language you're not getting here? Dad and I were working a job in Ohio, she was finishing up college. We went out for a couple weeks,' Dean responds.
'And...?' Dean shrugs. Sam gives up with getting more information about her. 'Look, it's terrible about her dad, but it kind of sounds like a standard car accident. I'm not seeing how it fits with what we do. Which by the way, how does she know what we do?' Dean looks shifty. Sam looks at Dean. 'You told her. You told her, the secret! Our big family rule number one. We do what we do and we shut up about it. You got mad because Hermione had figured it out after I lied to her for a year, and you go out with this chick in Ohio a couple times and you tell her everything?' Dean stays silent, staring straight at the road. 'Dean!'
'Yeah. Looks like,' Dean continues to stair ahead. Sam makes a bitchface at Dean shaking his head in the progress.
Sam, Dean and Hermione walk into the newspaper office. Dean thought this was the best place to go first.
'Jimmy, you're too close to this. Those guys were friends of yours. Again, Cassie, I'm very sorry for your loss,' That was the last thing the trio picked up from the conversation. The two man walk away. The girl whose name is Cassie turns around, looking right at Dean. Dean looks slightly apprehensive, but he nods at her and grins.
'Dean,' Cassie stares right at Dean.
'Hey Cassie,' the two of them stare at each other for a long moment, not speaking. Sam and Hermione watch. Sam smiles to himself, Hermione on the other looks a little uncomfortable. Dean clears his throat. 'This is my brother Sam and that's Hermione,' Cassie smiles at Sam and Hermione, who both smile back at her. Then her gaze returns to Dean. 'Sorry about your dad,'
'Yeah. Me too,' Dean and Cassie are still staring at each other.
The Sam, Dean and Hermione are in the lounge room of Cassie her mother's house. Cassie comes inside the room carrying a tray of tea and cups.
'My mother is in pretty bad shape. I've been staying with her. I wish she wouldn't go off by herself. She's been so nervous and frightened. She was worried about dad,' Cassie tells the trio.
