I’m here at my small room, staring at nothing and smelling every scent of cologne, sweat, and food. My boredom took over me and I can’t do much here, inside the office. My paper works are already finished since last week and everything that needs to be arranged were also finished. I turned my chair and stared at the scenery outside the window.
It’s so beautiful! Sunsets that changes one’s mood into a relaxing one. Clouds that darken the sky to give more define on its mysterious colors. Stars that slightly glisten in the dark but sparkles like a 5th Avenue diamonds.
The sky is so dazzling I can’t take my eyes off of it. But there’s something inside me that made me felt like I’m missing something. I have everything that I have wanted in my life; wealth, power, territory and everything. What did I miss something? Did I spend my teenage life on something that is called-
“Ma’am Rifewood, someone wants to talk to you.” My secretary barged in my office without knocking at the door. Because of her, my thoughts stopped and I almost cried of something I don’t even remember. I wiped my tears away before facing her.
“Who?”
“Mr. Abraham from Global Security Defence Unit. He wanted to talk to you about their businesses with you.”
“Let him in.”
After I said it, she let him come in the office. He looked… furious. What does he want my business?
“You may leave now.” I said before she stormed out of the room.
He breathed in and out, calming himself before sitting in the chair in front of me and faced me. “Bethie, we need your help.”
I stand up furiously before him. “For what? Another rehab session for a notorious criminal? Are you joking me?! I’ve had enough of it. I thought this will be the last time you need help from me.”
“I know. But this one is a special case. He was one of the country’s rebel group, Resistance. We need your help for the second time. Please! This will be my last visit on your office. You’re the only one who can make one criminal blurt everything he knows. You’re one of our best interrogators before you left the post.” Mr. Abraham concluded.
I thought about it for a while before calming myself up and sat back to my chair. If this will be his last visit and never disturb me again then deal. I’ll do it. I sighed before replying to the words he said. “This is ridiculous! A member from a rebel group? How come you managed to caught one?”
“One of my subordinates disguised himself as one. He managed to enter the enemy base without getting caught. Someone thought that he looked suspicious so he took the chance to kidnap that guy.” He removed his military hat and placed it in my table. “Please, 1st Lt. Bethie Rifewood. Please give us another chance to investigate the criminal and know the factors that might affect the country’s security.” He pleaded.
“Fine. But this will be the last time I’ll be doing it.”
“Yes. I can promise you that.”
I stood up and picked up my jacket and needed stuffs and things to investigate that troublesome person. Because of this, I have to do it again. Urgh! This is one troublesome event.
The time passed by so fast inside the car that I didn’t even notice that we are already in our destination. I got out from the black SUV and wore the jacket I just brought. The post didn’t change a bit. It was still the same building before I left. Obviously, it hasn’t change because the walls and windows still had that scratches the soldiers made. We went inside and walked straight to the investigation room.
