Hermione grumbled under her breath, tugging her luggage behind her as she entered the scarlet train. She swiftly began to search around for an empty train compartment, but suddenly stopped, feeling a soft tap on her shoulder.
The curly-headed girl frowned, turning around instantly. However, her irritated expression directly changed into a smile, as she enveloped her best friend in a tight hug. The fiery-haired girl chuckled, returning the hug.
"I missed you! It's a bummer you didn't come to the burrow this summer!" Ginny exclaimed, entering an empty compartment with Hermione.
"You know exactly why I didn't come..." She spat, softly patting her smooth cat. Crookshanks began to purr, rubbing his head against Hermione's leg.
"Come on! Harry isn't that bad." Ginny protested, rolling her eyes at her best friend's attitude.
"Yes, he is." Hermione bluntly murmured, groaning under her breath as she tugged a book out of her bag.

Hermione smiled, leaning over towards Ginny. "So what did you tell him?" She asked, giggling softly.
"I said yes." Ginny replied, a large grin spreading across her features. "Speaking of the ball, what did you tell Krum?"
"I said no-" Hermione mumbled, stopping when her best friend gaped at her.
"Why?"
"Well, for now at least, I'm waiting for someone else to ask me."
"Who?" Ginny eagerly asked, turning her full attention to Hermione, despite the fact that they were supposed to be working on a potion.
Hermione nodded, signaling to the spectacled boy, who sat across the room, frantically scribbling down the potion recipe.
"You fancy Harry?!" Ginny exclaimed, causing Hermione to clasp a hand over her mouth.
"Shhh..."
The blue-eyed girl bit her lip to contain her laughter, but eventually gave in, earning a playful smack from Hermione.
"I'm going to gather the final ingredients, I'll be back in a second." Hermione said, still slightly in a daze.
She quickly made her way over to the potions cabinet that just so happened to be right beside the table Harry and Ron were at. Her ears picked up on his voice, and soon she found herself listening to their conversation.
"Hey!" Harry anxiously said, gathering the attention of a Ravenclaw 5th year. She turned around, her long black hair draping over her shoulder.
"Yeah?" She giggled, blushing. Her fingers began to fiddle with the hem of her robe, as she became slightly nervous.
"I-I was wondering if you wanted to go to the ball with me?" Harry stuttered, swiftly becoming flustered in embarrassment.
"I would love too!" The girl exclaimed, turning back to the Slytherin who sat beside her. They noticed Hermione's saddened look, and began giggling, whispering petty insults under their breaths.
Nonetheless, Hermione heard everything they said. Her heart ached, as she wiped her eyes, storming off. Perhaps, having a crush on the boy who lived was foolish anyway.

The compartment door opened, revealing Ron and Harry. The bushy headed girl huffed, muttering pointless insults towards the two boys. Ginny gulped, looking over at Hermione who was glaring daggers at Harry.
"Hey, Gin! Can we sit here, everywhere else is full?" Her brother, Ron, asked, unaware of the fact that there was another girl in the compartment.
"Uh..." She began, locking eyes with Hermione. Her best friend began shaking her head, a look of pure hatred glazed over her eyes. "Sure."
Hermione's eyes widened in annoyance, glaring at Ginny instead. "Why would you say yes?" She mouthed, growling faintly.
Thankfully, the two boys hadn't noticed the tension, as they entered the compartment, taking a seat beside the girls. Harry, of course, sat beside Hermione, causing her to turn her back towards him.
"I'll be back in a minute." Hermione bluntly announced, exiting the compartment. She made her way to the bathrooms, a frown glued to her lips.
Sighing, she splashed some water on her face, progressively calming down. After brushing her hair back into a loose bun, she exited the bathroom, returning to the compartment.
Ginny's eyes lit up as her best friend entered the compartment once more, a bitter smile resting on Hermione's features.
"Hermione, have you met my brother Ron, and his good friend Harry?" Ginny sarcastically questioned.
Hermione's cold smile melted into a glare, that made Ginny gulp. "You're dead..." She mouthed at the redhead, turning towards the boys with a small smile on her lips.
"No, I don't think I have, Ginny." Hermione replied, rather cheerfully, making sure to articulate the girl's name.
Harry noticed Hermione's odd behavior but didn't say anything. Instead, he charmingly grinned, extending his hand for the girl beside him to shake.
Painfully, Hermione took his hand, blushing rapidly once she did. She could feel her feelings returning, but she refused to acknowledge that.
"Hi...I'm Hermione." The curly-headed girl breathed out, shivering as she realized their hands were still connected.
Upon noticing this, she tore her hand away, grabbing her book instead. Ginny winked at her best friend, knowing perfectly well what was going on...
