Riley would be the death of me. She was so brutally honest. Right now, I was fighting silver chains all over my body while I looked at delicious food just an inch away from me.
To a normal wolf, this would be hell. Pain in every part of the body from silver, and delicious food just out of reach. Riley did know the best way to torture someone.
What most wolves didn't know was how little silver affected lycons. The food had given me the incentive to break the chains and eat. A normal wolf wouldn't have been able to move with these chains around him. The chicken was just mouth watering. I kept gulping it down, not bothering with chewing it. After my strength was partially restored, I thought what I would do next.I could either run off now towards the Southern woods. Or I could take Darius prisoner, rescue Charles and run off to the Southern woods.
Either way you wouldn't see Riley.
My heart ached at the thought. I had waited for my mate for years, and now that I had found her, I had to leave her, without her even knowing about me. I wondered why it hadn't stuck her that I was her mate. She had felt the connection. Her wolf maybe couldn't find my scent below the scent of garbage.
At that moment, I felt a dull pain through my body. Had I invested silver? But there wouldn't be even a hint of pain. Was there any wolfsbane? No, no pack had wolfsbane. Only royalty did.
No, this was something else. It was as if someone else's pain was being transmitted partially to his body. But who...?
Immediately my eyes widened. Riley! But how is that possible? They hadn't even mated!
She was extremely strong. It was unlikely that someone took her down. Unless it was someone even more powerful that her.Ivan shuddered. It had to be royalty. Did they already suspect that she was his mate? That wasn't possible. They must think she was housing him.
And if they didn't extend a friendly request of visit, then it must be the murderer who had killed his siblings. Either way, it was bad. Very, very bad.
All these thoughts flashed through his mind as he ripped open the door to his cell. He searched for Charlie's scent, broke that door down too. He saw Charlie hanging from the ceiling. He smashed the chains, pulled Charlie to his feet and whispered, 'If you help me now, I will own you forever.'
Charlie bowed his head,' You know I will always have your back, Your Highness.'
I nodded, 'Okay. Find and save Alpha Riley. Something happened to her.'
'Why?' His eyes widened slightly. 'Is she your...'
I smiled slightly, 'Yes, she is my... . Lets go.'
As I pounded on the heavy cell door, I was opened and I was greeted by the Beta, Gamma and fifty soldiers.
I searched wildly for her scent. Where was she?
I growled at them, trying to keep my Lycon under control. 'Where is Riley.'
Some gasped at my disrespect, others tried to come to attack me. I stopped them with one look and they moved back, uneasy under my strong gaze, especially now that they knew I was a lycon.
I looked at the Beta in the eye, and said, 'She is in danger. I can feel it. Where is she?'
Jordan looked sharply at me, before trying to mindlink her. A confused expression appeared on his face. 'I can't reach her. Find where the Alpha is!'
About half of the soldiers rushed away.
Jordan looked at me bemused. 'Why aren't you running? And what do you mean that you can sense her? Only mates can...?' His eyes widened at the realization.
I nodded briefly at him.
'But how is that possible?' He wondered, talking more to himself than to me.
I disregarded his statement and and tried to reach her mind. We weren't mated yet so there was hardly any signal, but a Lycon could probably reach her.
After a minute of trying, I stopped. It was clear that something was stopping her. The only thing that could stop mind linking was silver or wolfsbane.
Horrified, I looked around helplessly hoping to find her coming around the corner from somewhere. Charles silently interrupted. 'There is a chance that they could have taken her, probably to the centre they had bound you.'
By now, most of the pack was looking urgently for their Alpha. They didn't even bother that two prisoners were out.
I turned to Jorden, 'Call the troops.'
He hesitated for a second, but then nodded. Within half a minute, around hundred soldiers were standing in front of me.
I stood on the platform, and shouted out, 'Listen to me very closely. And you will follow my commands as I am your Alpha's mate.' Many gasps were heard at this revelation.
Ignoring them, and a sinking feeling at the pit of my stomach, I continued. 'Alpha Riley has been kidnapped, either by silver or wolfsbane. I want ten warrior in each direction to travel and search the woods for a 20-mile-radius. Fifty will stay here to protect the pack, and ten will come with me to the abandoned railway platform near the Ravine. Lets go.'
I immediately shifted to my Lycon, completely dependent on it for its sense of direction. A few warriors followed closely but warily. Within a half an hour, we were a mile away form the abandoned station. I sniffed the air. I could smell her, but it was very faint, as if someone had covered her smell. I changed back to my human form, and signaled Jordan, the Beta who had followed me, to do the same.
'Call the rest back to guard the pack. I don't smell more than thirty different scents. We shall be able to take them by surprise.'
I rushed back to my Lycon form, and charged. The poop pups never knew what hit them. I didn't wait to battle them, I just made my way towards Riley. It turned out to be an easy task. I entered a large hall type room where five wolfs stood, and between them, sedated, was Riley. My Lycon growled threateningly. I had no self control has I tore those wolves down in a few seconds.
How date they touch our mate!
As I turned to look at the bloodshed, I noticed her absence. Where did she run off too? Her scent went through the back door, and I followed her after changing to my human form, but the Lycon still in control.
She was limping slightly as she walked away from me.
Mate is leaving us!
I ran towards her, turned her to me and checked her for injuries. But she pushed me away. My Lycon growled at this. He pushed her towards the wall, tilted her head and pushed his teeth towards her neck.
And then he stopped. My mouth hovered over her skin, but what stopped me was the crying. I pulled myself back. A few tears escaped her eyes, as she looked at me with fear. This was the wolfsbane. It made a person utterly vulnerable and weak. It was a miracle that she was able to stand or walk. She must really be strong to resist even unconsciousness.
I rushed back, away from her, trying to prevent my wolf from surfacing again. After I got it under control, I looked at Riley, who was on the floor, using the wall as her support, and looking at me. I looked down. Oops, I was still naked. But I crossed the distance between us and pulled her in a hug.
She immediately relaxed in my arms. I took a wiff of her lavender scent and lifted her. Without argument, she wrapped her arms around me. I looked down at her face, and saw her eyelids drooping. 'Sleep, love.'
I kissed her forehead as I carried her exhausted body towards her pack, with Charles, Jordan and other warriors behind me.
