This morning I woke up early and stopped at the pond, observing the way nature woke up.

“Sir, why do you like stopping here?”

“Because I’m happy.”  I smiled, watching the ripples in the water.  I was leaning against my car and admiring the beauty.

“Sir, here’s your bookbag that you left at the house.”  Lucille told me, holding the bag towards me.

“Thank you, Lucille, just put it in my car.”  I smiled and turned back to the pond.  The flowers on the side were perfectly arranged by none other than Mother Nature herself.  She was so good at these types of things and it amazed me.  Why couldn’t people be as good as her?

“Sir.”  Lucille started, pulling me from my thoughts.  “Your girlfriend will be very lucky to have someone like you.”  She commented.  “You have the money, and the personality.”

I looked at her and she blushed, turning to the ground.  “Why thank you, Lucille.”  I said, standing up and walking to stand in front of her.  “But you’ve already met that girl.”  I turned and walked to the driver’s side of my car and got in, watching her as she rushed to the car that brought her here.  “She’s too adorable.”  I chuckled to myself, shifting into drive.

Pulling into my parking spot, I sighed and shut the car off, laying my seat back.  Getting up two hours earlier was not a good idea.  Just as I was dozing off, Bradley’s obnoxiously loud truck pulled up beside my car, on the wrong side.  He got out and started banging on my window.  I groaned and slammed my fist down on the horn.  He jumped almost three feet back and decided it wasn’t a good idea to mess with me.  I went to sleep and woke up an hour later when I heard Bradley’s engine roar to life.  I realized Royce had made him move to his rightful place and I was glad.  Gosh, he’s really aggravating.

The rest of the morning till lunch was boring and full of complaints from Bradley about this morning.  When lunch rolled around, I was the first person seated and proud to be, waiting for my princess.  But with all good things, come obstacles.  So with my princess, came the ugly stepsister.

Sage sat down beside me and I looked at her, giving her one of my famous smiles.

“Hello Sage.”  I greeted her, watching as she nervously fidgeted with her clothes.  She looked around the table and her eyes stopped in the direction towards the door.  I followed her gaze and realized that I was so screwed.  Why did she have to ruin everything?

“Hey baby!”  She made sure everyone heard her as she walked to the table and took her seat beside Royce.  Royce purposely slid his chair away from her.

“Gosh, can’t you see he doesn’t like you?  Go away.”  Royce groaned, turning away from her and tuning into the conversation at the other end of the table.

“Royce, you’re so mean, of course he likes me.  Right baby?”  Stacy asked me, leaning her chin against her palm.  I just ignored her and shoved a french fry in my mouth.

Sage was extremely quiet beside me.  She wouldn’t say a word and I was kind of glad.  Maybe if we got through lunch I could ask her out on a date or something.  Somewhere she’d be comfortable to talk to me.  Might even go to her house.

“Tobie, man, got any money on you?”  Bradley elbowed me.  I shoved him back.

“No, man, go get your own job and be worth something.”  I told him.  I heard a chuckle from my right side and just as I turned towards her, Stacy reached a hand across the table in my direction.  By instinct I dodged it, realizing how hurt she was.

“See, no matter what you do he doesn’t love you.  Even if he said it, he wouldn’t mean it.  Anything that happens between you two doesn’t matter in his mind.”  Royce pointed out folding his arms.

“Then he wouldn’t mind kissing me, right?”  She retorted, turning to face me.  My eyes widened and I looked to Royce, who was just as surprised as I was.

“What?”  I asked, blinking a couple of times.  “What are you talking about?”

“Prove him wrong, baby, kiss me.”  Stacy repeated with a devilish grin.

I could feel everyone’s eyes on me and I freaked out, not knowing what to do.  I shot a glare in Royce’s direction that told him to fix this.  He looked down at the table and, I’m hoping, acted on impulse.  The next move took everyone by surprise.  No one knew it was coming and I know I didn’t.

Royce reached towards Stacy with both hands and turned her head, shoving his lips against her’s.  My eyes widened and I heard gasps come from almost everyone.  When he pulled away, she turned to me then back to him.

“Did that just happen?”  Sage asked, slightly tapping my arm.

“Gosh, I hope not.”  I answered, still watching Royce’s face for any sign of regret.  But his acting skills were very good and I couldn’t see anything.  But soon he excused himself from the table, Stacy following close behind.

“So what, now that he kissed her she’ll be after him?”  Bradley asked from my left side.

“Why, you jealous?”  I asked him, earning a few snickers from around the table.

“No,” he scoffed, continuing to eat.  I turned to Sage and she was quietly eating, looking as if she didn’t like being here.

“Hey,” I got her attention, waiting till she looked at me, “cheer up, she’s gone now.”  I assured her as she smiled and turned away.

I will tell you one thing: being in love sucks.  All you do is think about that one person and the smallest things they do just blow your mind.  They stay in your head and distract you from everything else and it’s just, them.  No matter what, it’s them.

Sometimes, I love it.  But other times, I want to hit myself.  Why am I acting like this, why does she distract me so well?  She could kill me and all I would care about is her in front of me.  I know I’m head-over-heels in love with her but I’m loving it.

After school, I stopped by the pond.  After rolling down all the windows and shutting the car off, I climbed on the top of the car and spread my homework out.  I started playing some music and worked quickly.  I really wanted to talk to her.

It was two hours before I had everything studied and worked out although I knew it’d leave my mind as soon as I got to talk to her.  This girl doesn’t know what damage she is causing, and it makes it all the more enjoyable.

I put all my books into my bookbag and dropped it on the ground, grabbing my phone and dialing the one that’s been on my mind the entire day. I should invite her over.
