I stared at my mom with my mouth hung open. "You mean she stayed at Nathan's house all night?"
"Yes dear. Why, did you need her?" She asked clueless.
"Of course I did mom! Sage was here all night waiting for her!" I exclaimed with my hands in the air. I stopped when I heard the door open and stomped straight to the front door entrance.
"What is wrong with you, Trixie?" I asked.
"Don't talk to me." She ordered me, waving me off like she was tired.
"No, I will." I grabbed her by the arm, holding her in her place.
"Really, Tobias? You're really going to act like this? Your day went perfect and you had the night of your life while I-"
"Made out with Nathan?" I interrupted her rant.
"What?" She backtracked, looking me in the eye. "I didn't-"
"Don't lie to me. You spent the entire night with him while I occupied Sage because she was waiting for you."
"It's true, I did stay but-"
"What? What excuses can you give me to cover this up?"
"Tobias, just listen to me!"
"No!" I yelled, creating a dead silence that settled into the house. I took a deep breath to keep from yelling too loud again. "Whatever you did, caused Sage to not talk to me. And if you want me to be honest, I just want her to be happy. So fix this, please, so that she won't ignore everyone and hurt herself even more."
"Why do you care so much about her? What about me?" Trixie asked, sounding hurt.
"I cared about you until you ruined the only relationship I cared about. You know this is the first person I have ever liked and you just go and ruin it by staying the night with her best friend. What a smart move, Trix." I told her off as I walked past her.
"Tobias, I thought we were twins, we were supposed to stick together! How could you let her get between us?"
"Don't talk like this is her fault, this is all on you." I turned to her after getting my shoes on. "You never needed to spend the night with Nathan, you could've come home before ten and everything would've been fine and none of this would have happened. This is what happens when you let yourself get carried away."
"And you didn't? You carried her into her house and kissed her on the forehead."
"Hey, I didn't stay at her house all night, now did I? You've been gone since you left for school yesterday morning. You should be grounded."
"We're too old to be grounded, Tobie."
"Well, I guess you just haven't learned your lesson yet." I retorted, walking out of the house. I groaned as I got into Sage's car mindlessly, driving down the long driveway and surprisingly past the pond. I had more urgent matters to attend to.
I don't know what exactly is going through my head at the moment. Everything, really.
Why was this happening to me? Was this normal when you liked someone? Does everything just fall apart right in front of your eyes? Is it supposed to feel like you found your world and it all just crumbles right in front of you? Was it normal to react this way? Did you just forget everything you ever knew to protect the one you loved?
Am I really in too deep?
Am I really that desperate? I am the future President of the Lancaster company, could marry any woman, anyone with tons of money, but all I want is her.
I am. I am obsessed.
And the sad part is? I find myself pulling into her driveway. Pfft, like she'd talk to me anyways.
I sat in her car, contemplating on what I should do. Should I leave? Should I confront her? She still hates me. I don't know what I did though. I treated her like she was a princess and carried her and let her sleep and everything. I did everything I had ever learned that was good and she acts as if I hurt her. Did I hurt her? Gosh, what if I did and I didn't even know it. That's such a-
There was a knock on the car window and I rolled it down to revealed Sage's mother. "You just sitting here stalking my daughter?" She asked casually.
"What? U-uh, no, ma'am, I was-"
She laughed and motioned for me to follow. "Come inside, I'll fix you something for lunch."
"No, that's alright, Mrs. Wat-"
"Alice, call me Alice." She said with a bright smile.
"So how are you in school?" 'Alice' asked as she handed me a cup of liquid that smelled somewhat of tea.
"Good I guess. I have to keep my grades up for the company."
"What company?" She asked as she looked very interested.
"My family's company. Lancaster."
"Wow, your family owns that company? I would've never guessed."
"Really? I thought Sage might have already told you."
She took a sip of her tea. "No, she doesn't talk about you a lot. She seemed very upset today too. What happened between you two?"
As I took a long drink, I then sighed. "I'd like to know as well."
"You mean, you don't..."
"No. I really don't. But that's kind of why I'm here, I guess."
"You guess?" She asked as she shot a questioning glance towards me.
"Well, I was driving and just kind of wound up here. I was sitting in the car because I was doubting that this was a good idea."
Her mother reached a hand across and laid it on my knee. "I promise, this was a great choice."
We sat around and talked about anything and nothing all at the same time. It was nice, not arguing or being completely starstruck. It was a break from reality that consisted of real simple conversations and comfort. I was in the kitchen helping 'Alice' with dinner when Sage came through the front door, stopping in her tracks to see us both, or mainly me most likely.
"What are you guys doing?" She said with a sacastic smile.
"Oh, welcome home, sweetie! How was your trip FrostBite?" 'Alice' laughed, "I bet you got frost bite too."
"Um, it was okay. It's not even that cold." She looked at me as I stared right back at her.
I awkwardly chuckled and cleared my throat.
"Guess who's joining us for dinner?" Her mom motioned towards me with her eyes. I smiled at Sage, only receiving a shrugged, 'cool,' and a leave to walk up to her room. I sighed and sat in a dining room chair.
"What did I do?" I mumbled to myself, staring down at my hands that were laying in my lap.
I felt a hand on my shoulder and looked up to see Alice smiling down at me. "Go up and talk to her."
"What am I supposed to say? She ignored all my texts and calls, it's not like she's changed her mind."
"It's easier to ignore someone when they're not here."
So after some lengthy thinking, I stood, hugging her and walking to the stairs. With one deep breath, I headed up this path that I had just learned not too long ago. But this time, I was coming back to retrieve the princess.
