the new girl,  pt. 2

IT HAD BEEN HARD TO RETURN TO THE HUMID ATMOSPHERE OF FORKS. And it was even harder to return to Forks High School. But the most horrible thing for Lilian would be being the new girl.

Multiple people looked up at the Mercedes SUV that rode up the parking lot of the school, parking smoothly on a spot that had been empty for a while now... a spot where usually an Audi R8 was parked.

A redhead stepped out, and the nearby students trembled with curiosity. Little did they know that the redhead could hear every word they said. She could hear every gasp, smell every shampoo they used, sense every single person's distance. They were oblivious to the fact that she scanned the crowd, scanned the parking lot for certain indications of security.

Lilian had gotten used to the things her alter ego had to take care of, a heartbeat, body warmth, a blush if it were necessary. She managed to be calm around humans and was able to keep her temperament under control. How Lilian had done it, she didn't know.

The redhead walked up the steps of the school, straight for Mrs. Cope's office. She was going to pick up her schedule and get the hell to her class. She would not be late, and she would tell her teachers that she had stage fright – so she would not have to introduce herself in front of the class.

U.S. History. Why, in the name of the gods, did she take this class? Then again, it was interesting, and she knew that she would be enjoying her classmates' faces when she knew the answer to every question that was asked.

Lilian sat down at her table – in the back of the class and far away from the teacher. She silently begged that she'd have no one next to her these months. Sitting alone in the back, away from gossip or being asked out on dates, Lilian felt utterly comfortable.

She could smell them, before they entered the classroom, and the young vampire wondered why she hadn't done so before. Vampires. There were vampires in this school, and Lilian would bet her hand for it that it weren't the human blood-sucking versions. And indeed, there, in the threshold appeared a face Lilian had wanted to avoid for the next years. Shit, he was even more beautiful in this life... the scars that covered spots on his neck and jaws were admirable. And she could see those muscles through his black baseball shirt...

What the fuck was she doing?! Snapping back into reality, Lilian found herself already gasping at him, and she probably had not taken her eyes off him for multiple minutes, but she hated herself for doing so.

He left her. Left her behind without guidance. Left her alone in hell. And now, Jasper Hale walked toward her table, or rather, the table in front of her. Shit. Shit, shit, shit, shit. Even his scent was intoxicating... coconut, vanilla and something she suspected to be a perfume.
