the awakening

|00| prologue |

THE BEEPING SOUND OF MACHINES WAS THE FIRST THING SHE NOTICED. Then she noticed how the entire room smelled extremely clean... eventually she realized she could even hear the ants that crumbled under her window.

Lilian didn't yet open her eyes, for she had a suspicion of what might've happened; Lilian Harper was no longer human, in fact, she was a vampire. Her faith had been sealed, but luckily, she knew the Cullens would help her. There were no others who could, right?

Weird enough, she didn't crave blood, as was told her before by the Cullens. No, instead of blood, Lilian Harper craved a fucking cheeseburger with fries and a milkshake...

Images flashed through her mind as Lilian suddenly remembered from what she woke up; she had died, her twin had turned into an enormous white wolf and she stood too close. Lilian gasped and sat immediately straight in bed, shaking up the person that rested on her bedside.

"Lil! Thank God you're awake!" Collin's voice yelled loudly into her ears, and the now very sensitive limbs rang. The blonde covered her ears and didn't dare to open her eyes... she knew they would no longer be the icy blue color she'd loved so much. They'd be crimson red, marking her officially as a vampire.

"Oh, I'm sorry..." her brother mumbled, and Lilian could hear the hoarseness in his voice, as if he'd been crying so much.

"Why?" She whispered, and she heard her brother gasp softly in realization that this... siren-like call would now be his sister's voice.

"Why what?" Collin dared to ask.

"Why isn't anyone else here? Why aren't there any nurses?" Lilian voiced little of all the questions that flowed through her brain.

"We didn't... Carlisle doubted you'd wake up soon, Lil," Collin whispered.

"Then where the fuck are those wretched leeches now? Aren't they supposed to help me get adjusted to this life?" Lilian snarled under her breath.

A long silence followed, and Lilian began to dread the answer of her brother.

"Lilian, you were in a coma," Collin said carefully, "from March 14..."

Lilian gulped, "what date is it?" her voice was weak and trembled with fear. Fear of hearing that she'd be alone in this.

"It's February 28, Ms. Harper, you've been in a coma for eleven months," a doctor quipped as he entered the room.

His scent slammed into Lilian's lungs, a heinous burning forming in her throat. Her muscles tensed, but yet, she didn't want to drain him... because of his scent, she started to crave ice cream, in the flavors of cookie dough and chocolate... though, the thought of his blood in her throat, his warm, liquid blood, that would satisfy her needs too.

Collin seemed to notice the change in his sister's behavior, for she could hear him rise from his seat.

"Please, she's alright. I merely need to inform her about some situations, could you search for my mother instead? She'd be more than happy to do the vital-check," he stated calmly.

"A-alright," the doctor said, and Lilian heard the door slam shut. She flinched at all the unexpected sounds that were send her way.

"Col... where is he? Where are they?" Lilian asked with a voice that was trembling from self-control.

"There was... an accident during Bella's birthday, last year. Jasper didn't hunt much, as he was mostly at your side, and well... Bella cut her finger at unwrapping the presents. Can you guess the remaining part?"

"They left. Despite the fact that I'd been bitten and could wake up any moment, they left because of a papercut," Lilian stated, her voice dripping with poison.

"Well..." Collin mumbled, "the doctors reckoned that you wouldn't wake up ever again. And luckily, Alice was kind enough to explain our family everything, and none of our family members hold a grudge against them anymore. Bella got the full armory from Edward though, it was pretty bad."

"If I ever find that wretched Victorian bastard, I'm going to kick his ass for hurting Bells," Lilian growled lowly, and she heard Collin take a few steps back, "I'm sorry. I guess emotional sensitivity isn't one of the perks of being a newborn."

The door suddenly opened, and a weird scent entered Lilian's nostrils, it wasn't like the doctor who'd entered before – eatable, nor like Collin's which was just disgusting – no, it was rather like the fresh woods after the rain, less... attractive to drain. Nonetheless, the heart that pumped inside the human's chest made it a lot harder for Lilian not to lunge at the person she thought must've be her mother.

"Lilian..." Cristina Harper spoke up, "Lilian, sweetie, I'm so, so sorry for how I acted. I promise I'll never do such thing again. I'm your mother and I love you more than life itself. Please—"

Lilian didn't let her mother speak, for the newborn embraced her carefully, still not opening her eyes.

"Lily, why aren't you opening your eyes? All the Cullens told us that it was the most mesmerizing moment in a vampire's life?" Collin spoke up. Lilian then began to sob, and to everyone's surprise, a tear ran down her cheek.

"I don't want to see those horrible, disgusting eyes," Lilian mumbled, "I didn't want this... but it was this or death..." A warm hand wrapped itself around her cold one, and Cristina's scent filled Lilian's senses.

"Please, I want to look into my daughter's face," the woman begged, "I want to ensure that we haven't lost you completely."

The blonde sucked in a deep breath, before opening her eyes to her mother, whose eyes widened, but then she smiled, "Still as cold and blue as ever."
