students flooded into the classroom as she realized that she's barely ever been this early before.

it felt weird to sit at the front, especially with mr. lee not yelling at them for socializing.

loudness.

people.

and that was only because there was still a few minutes until class was going to start.

chatter,

chatter,

chatter.

she quietly pulled out her homework from last night, that she had somehow read god knows when.

"psst, aera."

she let out a sigh, expressionlessly turning to her right with no answer.

"can we review the notes together? please?"

rolling her eyes, she averted her attention back to the packet in front of her, and began to reread the chapter to keep herself occupied.

"okay fine, be like that then."

with furrowed eyebrows and a pout, hueningkai scooched his chair over, making sure the metal leg scraped against the floor to make it clear that he was moving away from her.

not that she even cared.

she almost even smiled a smile of relief.

..almost.

"after everything i did for you. hmph."

as the last of the students walked into the room and to their seats, wrapping up their conversations, mr. lee hit his messy stack of papers on his desk in an effort to straighten them and earn the class' attention.

"alright everybody, i hope you did your homework last night. put everything away. i'll be passing out your pop quiz now."

everyone let out light groans of irritation as they did as they were told.

and luckily, she had finished reviewing in time.

hueningkai, not so much.

"chop chop, we don't have all day now."

"time's up! put down your pens please."

hueningkai was emotionally and physically exhausted.

he wasn't doing so well.

he thought he failed the assessment, even attempting to peek at the papers of the girl next to him but failing as she covered them with a scowl.

wait.

why were all her answers different?!

he frantically scanned his papers as mr. lee began to walk around and collect them.

"..shit."

he muttered, running a hand through his hair.

he should've just done the homework last night.

she subtly glanced over at his breakdown, as he kept talking to himself and changing answers.

wasn't it her fault?

all because she decided to sleep on the bus.

stupid, stupid, stupid.

he had done the nice thing and stayed with her.

and he didn't even have to.

she owed him more now.

and she wasn't the type to thank.

with a low sigh, she didn't meet his eyes as she slid her papers into his field of view.

"here. thanks for yesterday."

she mumbled, resting her cheek on her palm casually.

the baffled boy turned to look at her in astonishment.

"oh, you're welcome.. and thanks."

keeping his voice at a low whisper, hueningkai copied her answers faster than he had disabled her phone.

"your quiz, mr. kamal." fortunately, mr. lee had started collecting papers from the back of the room first.

hueningkai contently handed the paper over, feeling happy as it slipped out of his grip and into his teacher's.

"ms. park."

she nervously held out her paper, scared that her and hueningkai would get busted.

she gave him a small, fake smile to remain inconspicuous.

after receiving everyone's, mr. lee headed back to his seat, placing the quizzes at the corner of his desk.

"hope you did well. you're dismissed."

that day, hueningkai would forever be eternally indebted to her.

honestly, he just hoped she had the right answers.
