Klaus and Lifa sat at the Mystic Grill eating. Well, she ate while he just watched her. He had missed her the last decades more than he would ever admit. He had missed seeing her smile, hearing her voice and recognizing her mother in every part of her.

Klaus remembered how he first saw her, Mendora Petrova, his love, his soulmate, his sun, his whole world.

Klaus took a walk with Tatia a girl he kinda fancied (not really he just knew her brother liked her). They arrived at the forest near the village when he saw a girl sitting in the grass. She had dark eyes, brown hair and beautiful light red lips.

At first, she didn't recognize her but after a few moments, Klaus realized who she was. She was Tatia's younger sister Mendora. But when he saw her that moment he saw her differently. Maybe it was because he hadn't seen her for a few months and she had changed or she had never really looked at her before but he felt like she was the most beautiful thing he ever saw.

Her long light brown hair fell softly on her shoulder. A kind smile was set on her red lips. Her simple dress let her look breathtaking. And even if she and her sister looked a lot like each other she was completely different from everyone he had ever seen before.

This was the first time Klaus saw the beautiful grown-up women in Mendora and not the young girl that lived in his village.

Mendora got up the second she noticed Tatia and smiled at her sister. "Hello" "Hello, sister. I think you remember Niklaus. Niklaus this is my dear sister Mendora", said Tatia. While Mendora greeted him he simply nodded not sure if he was able to build a whole sentence.

Tatia already opened her mouth to say something when Klaus heard Elijah shout: "Tatia!" "I think I'm needed elsewhere if you excuse me, Niklaus, Mendora", said the older Petrova before running back toward the village.

After a few awkward seconds Mendora broke the silence. "So Niklaus, your brother likes my sister?", she asked but it sounded more like a statement. "It seems so", replied Klaus not sure what she wanted to hear. They slowly walked back to the village in silence again.

After a few minutes, Mendora tripped but before she could fell to the floor she was caught by Klaus's strong arms. She looked into his eyes and started rambling: "Uhm... Ah... Thanks... Yeah... Thanks, I guess" He wasn't sure what to say she caught him totally off-guard. So he simply replied: "You're welcome... I guess"

They laughed a bit on their awkwardness till the booth of them suddenly realized that he still held her in his arms. He let go off her and they continued their way but this time they talked. If Klaus would be asked what they were talking about he would have no idea. Not because it was unimportant to him but because they talked about everything and nothing

That was the point when they started seeing each other more often. Two years later they married each other. What Klaus and Mendora didn't know was that they were going to have a baby.

A few weeks later after Henrik died life changed forever for the couple because they became vampires. And the whole family was surprised when they found out that Mendora was pregnant. A few months later she gave birth to a beautiful girl.

Klaus walked up and down nervously hearing Mendora scream in pain regularly. Elijah sat near to him trying to calm him down. Klaus suddenly stopped walking when he realized how quiet everything was. Rebekah entered the room and he watched her as she spoke with an excited but soft voice: "Its a girl, Nik. You have a daughter."  "Is she okay? Is Dora okay?", asked Klaus worried about the person he loved the most. Rebekah stepped closer to him and said calmly: "She is good, Nik."

After he heard that he instantly used his vampire speed to run to his wife. She looked exhausted but as if she would survive it and that was at the moment the most important thing for him. Her doe-like eyes were focused on the baby without realizing her husband entering the room.

Klaus stepped closer to the two of them fascinated. He was only one or two steps away anymore when Dora and their daughter finally noticed them. His wife shot him a smile and he reached out towards his daughter slowly.

She wrapped her fingers around his thumb and that was the exact moment when she had him wrapped around her finger.

Dora ripped him out of his thoughts when she asked: "Have you an idea for the name yet?" He shook his head slightly still not able to look away from his child. "Because I thought about Lífa... You know like hlíf and líf... Because I would really like the meanings shield and life... You know what I mean?", she asked unsure if he liked the idea because he didn't reply.

He smiled at his wife answering: "Yes, I think that would be perfect just like you."

Klaus got ripped out of his memories as Lifa asked: "What are you thinking of, dad?" "You and your mother", he answered and continued after a bit of silence: "When everything was still..." Even if he didn't finish that sentence she understood. She leaned forward touching his hands softly to comfort him.

"I miss her too. I know it's been a long time but every time I open my eyes in the morning I still expect her to be there as if all of that never happened", she said fighting the tears knowing she was about to cry.

"It's still the two of us", he replied also getting emotional. After a few seconds of silent eye contact, Lifa finally said: "Always and forever." Then Klaus asked full of surprise: "Still?" "But you know what's the definitions of the words 'always' and 'forever' are don't you?", she asked taking her hands away from his and raising her left eyebrow at her father.

He had to smile because he thought he didn't deserve someone like her in his life someone who was there for him after everything he had done someone who was loyal and loving and someone who always brought out his best sides.

She replied with a smile. And for a short amount of time, she forgot about Marcel, all the persons that tried to kill her, her family and how messed up her undead life truly was.
