Today was it.
Whether first or last time, I will be seeing Bertoldt made into another alliance, or be killed without hesitation...
"So what really happened out there?" A voice calls out, followed by the clatter of silverware and the squeak of a wooden chair. Sasha.
"I don't really want to talk about it" I mutter, "focus on your meal won't you?"
"Don't have to ask her twice" a deeper-but not by much- voice adds. Connie.
He was funny, but annoying on my part. I tend to stray away from him to stay out of trouble. "Hey! Where's your potates?"Gritting her teeth, Sasha gave him a stern glare, "that's not the only food I like" she retorts. Obviously she took this statement to some kind of offense.
"Yea, Connie. Bread is all she needs" another voice mutters. Ymir. I never understood her. Her mysterious nature and almost permanent scowl led me to stray far from her as well.
Just as I was about to excuse myself, a voice rang out across the dining hall.
"Azalea Farlanes, Reiner Braun, you will be attending today's trial. Come foreward."
Reiner? Why is he coming? He wasn't there. I guess he is good friends with Bertoldt.
I stand up and follow Reiner out the door. His gigantic structure blinds me from seeing our form of transportation, causing me to walk half-heartedly towards it. A neigh. That was all it took for me to give a tiny smile, all i could muster for this situation. The Military's horses, the most beautiful, majestic creatures, and I get to ride one. Was this there way of giving us false comfort in case we witness death?
Adjusting myself in the saddle, I look at Reiner. I try to make out every crease on his face, desperately trying to pick out an emotion.
But there is none.
His face is almost relaxed, despite the situation. The only thing I can see different is his eyes. Narrowed into tiny slits, all he looks at is what's in front of him.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"We're here. Tie up the horses and take a seat depending on your squad."Dismounting my horse and giving it a respectful pat, I walk inside to squad Levi. Sometimes I wonder if he regrets choosing me for his squad, his scowl is always present. I was his only choice at the time, he didn't trust Bertoldt already, nor the others. I was the one he would regret the least, but he still regrets it a bit I bet. I'm extremely fast, but I did run from a titan before. I didn't trust my insincts, and Levi won't forget that time.
"Goodevening corporal" I say to him. I want to lighten the mood for him, he must have alot going through his mind.
"Does it seem like a nice evening to you" he mutters. I was taken aback by his tone, it wasn't angry, but almost sad. Could he have just begun to trust Bertoldt and was fooled by his own actions?
Despite being only 5 years older than me {Levi is 23 in this story}, Levi is unbeleivably skilled and extremely smart. Seeing just a hint of sadness from him was very confusing.
Then, the door creaks a bit. My heart skips a beat as Hanji leads Bertoldt into the courtroom, but it suddeny sinks into my stomach as I see his bruised face and bloodied hands. What has he done? Or what at all has happened in just two days?
Bertoldt kneels and the bar lowers, the moving of the handcuffs causing him to wince. Levi lets out a small "huh" and narrows his eyes. He's pleased.
The monster he sees is caged, and now cornered.
