"How was school? Made any friends yet?" My father asked when I walked into the front door. Throwing my bag on the couch and plopping my ass down next to him, he was watching TV before I came in.

"It was incredibly boring. But, I might've made a friend. Not sure, she's in all my classes besides one. It's crazy."

"All but one, aye?" he said, with a smirk, "you should give her a friendship bracelet already."

I playfully smacked my dad's arm. His teasing is normal, when I was little I always wanted to do some sort of matching jewelry with my friends. I know, I know, childish as fuck.

"Have you heard from mom?" I asked my dad, knowing the answer.

"No. I've tried reaching out to her, but you know how she is. Never answering unless she needs something from us. Worthless bitch."

By the angered tone in his voice, I decided not to continue the conversation. Instead, I got up, hugged my dad and walked to my room. My mom left us when I was younger under terms my dad and I don't even understand. She still talks to us every now and then, but only when she needs to get out of some sort of trouble. Last time I heard from her, is when we told her our new address and the reason why we moved. My dad knows I'm lesbian and he's perfectly okay with it, my mom is not.

Upon entering my room, I took off my shoes and laid them on a taped box. We still haven't finished moving in yet. Sitting on my bed, I examined my room. It was bigger than my last room with a large window revealing the front yard, a huge closet though not one of those fancy walk-in closets. It's not decorated yet, only thing I have unpacked is my bedding, my bed, and some clothes. My old house was extremely tiny and infested with black mold, rats running between the walls, and cockroaches.

A few hours later, my dad came into my room, interrupting my YouTube.

"Hey lazy ass, dinner is ready. Want to eat with me or isolate yourself and eat in your room?"

"Depends. What did you make?"

"Your favorite, spaghetti with way too much tomato sauce."

Hearing that, I threw my laptop on my bed, and ran past him to the kitchen to dish myself a bowl.

"Does that mean you're eating with me?" he hollered after me. I don't know how people can like spaghetti with barely any sauce, it's just dry and gross. Once I got myself a bowl, I ran to the couch and sat next to my dad who already got a bowl.

"So," my dad said, a few minutes later, "tell me about this friend of yours."

Rolling my eyes, I looked at him. "She's not my friend. I barely even know her."

"Whatever she is to you currently, tell me about her. At least as much about her that you know."

"Well," I said, placing my bowl on the coffee table, "her name is Teal. She's got like longish brown hair, brown eyes, and she's shorter than me. I don't really know about her, but she seems friendly."

"Is she aware?"

"Dad, I'm not going to tell a complete stranger I'm a lesbian. Especially when I'm not open about it."

"I know baby, I just don't want the same thing to happen. If she hints she has anything wrong with people like you, I'll get the bat."

"You can't hit her, she's a kid. That's child abuse."

"Then I'll hit her parents with a bat for not teaching her how to respect." he said kissing my head. I love my dad, no matter what he's just supportive of me. I laid my head on his chest like I used to when I was younger, and felt my eyes close.
