He was a rare rose; so mesmerizing, enchanting, beautiful, and nothing at all like the others. I never thought I would be the lucky one to pick that rose. It was as if God came down to earth and planted that one, special rose just for me. So yes, you can say that he was one of the rare ones, so effortlessly himself. His name is Elliot Carter, one of the bad ones – on the outside at least. One the inside, he was gentle, like the soft sound of rain. All the girls wanted him but for some reason, he wanted me. My story may seem simple – girl falls in love with boy, blah, blah, blah. But no, my story is completely different..

It all started on the first day of freshman year. I wasn't very excited because school is, well.. school. Nothing there to be excited about. My friend Marissa, on the other hand, was extremely excited about school. She looked forward to the social scene, she loved making new friends. Marissa wants everyone to like her, unlike me who doesn't care what other people think. Marissa and I are complete opposites, but like they say – opposites attract, right?
"Just let me see your schedule," Marissa said to me, eagerly waiting to see if we had any classes together.
"Oh no, we only have fourth together," I said nervously.
"Guess who has to stop being anti-social and make some friends? JULIET DOES!" Marissa laughed at her exclamation, always getting a kick out of teasing me.
"Sometimes I question your sanity," I replied jokingly.

*Few days pass*
I had already gotten use to being alone in my classes so, it was a surprise one day when this tall, senior boy walked up to my table and sat with me at lunch. He looked like a bad guy, but there was something about him that made me question just how bad he really was, not sure what is was though.
"This seat taken?" He asked politely.
"What do you think?" I replied as I continued to read my book.

"My name is Elliot, and yours?" He asked.
"It's Juliet," I replied, still engrossed in my novel.
"Ah, you like to read, huh? Let's see what you're reading then, honey," he said as he tilted my book up, trying to see what it was.

"Excuse you! For one, if you want to know what book I'm reading, just ask. Secondly, don't call me honey! I just told you my name, use it," I replied.
"wow someone's a little angry today" Elliot teases
*Juliet rolls her eyes and scoffs at Elliot*
"I'm kidding with you, your name is beautiful. I take it as your parents are Shakespeare fans?" He flashed his eyes on mine, curiosity and a glimmer of amusement flickering in his iris.
"Yes, my parents are Shakespeare fans. In fact, I'm reading one of his plays."

*bell rings*
"Hey, Juliet! Why don't you let this ole Romeo walk you to class?" Elliot asks, flirtatiously.
"Now you're my Romeo, huh? I don't think so..."
"Come on, what class do you have?"
"Creative writing, the same class as you."
Elliot failed that class freshman year and couldn't graduate without it. Most of his classes were freshman one's that he failed and had to redo in order to graduate. Elliot began to walk me to class. As I sat down at my table, he came and sat beside me.
"So, sitting with me is like a new thing now, huh?" I asked.
"Come on, don't be so shy around everyone. Make some friends, honey," Elliot replied as if he was hinting towards being my friend. I didn't say anything.
As class started the teacher told us to write a poem starting with a flower.

*Juliet's poem reads*
When the daffodils bloom,
The new beginnings arrive.
At this moment, you have endless time
To count the petals slowly,
And let the wind breeze kiss you with delight.
The sun rays try to warm up the place
While your gorgeous red hair is covering your face.
By the time night is among us,
Your new beginnings have arrived
And are waiting to be traveled all through the night.

*Elliot starts to read it*
"Juliet, this is really lovely. Do you always write stuff like this?"
*Juliet begins to blush*
"Well thank you, Elliot and yes, I do."

*Three days pass*
I'm beginning to get use to Elliot following me around like a little lost puppy and I begin to kind of consider him a friend. Although I'm the shy type, I wasn't shy at all around him. As Marissa and I were walking to our fourth period class, Elliot walks up to me.

"Juliet, I want you to meet my friend, Dalton," Elliot regards me with his friend in tow.
"Ohh, this girl is Juliet! Dude, this was the girl that got me in trouble on the very first day of school," Dalton said as he looked me up and down like he wanted to hurt me.

*Flashback to the first day of school*
"Marissa, stop talking so loud. We're going to get into trouble," I warned Marissa, who was laughing uncontrollably.
"Hey! Will you stupid freshies shut the fuck up?" One of the seniors, Dalton, rudely snapped at us.
"Hey Dalton, you sir just earned yourself a ticket to detention," our teacher regarded Dalton, a disappointed-but-not-surprised type of look on her face.

"That's not fair! What the fu-" Dalton sputtered, just before the teach interrupted him.
"Not another word ."
*Back to the present*
"It's not out fault that you were being a total asshole to us for laughing! Not like you were doing your work anyway," Marissa pointed out.

"Speak up!" Dalton raised his voice, drawing attention from other students. Elliot told Dalton to stop and to apologize, which is complied. I convinced Marissa to do the same in turn. But, just as I was walking again to fourth period, Dalton "accidentally" bumped into me, causing me to drop my books.

"I didn't mean to, my bad," Dalton regarded me with a smirk.
Soon, the bell rang and Dalton was running upstairs to his class, not bothering to apologize. Marissa, lost in her own blank space little world, just stood there. Elliot helped me though, and that's when he asked me.

"Juliet, can I ask you something?"
"Of course," I replied, trying to get my books back in order.
"Would you like to go to the movies with me next Saturday?"

What??? Did Elliot seriously just ask me on a date? I suddenly realized that though Marissa was no longer in her blank space little world anymore, I had become the next visitor.

"Yes! She would love to go," Marissa answered for me.
