They think that we met singing karaoke in Tokyo,
They think I laughed you when you stubbed your toe.
I don't know why they don't want to believe the truth,
Of how boring our story is, it's nothing exceptional. I don't know about you, but they needed a story that was sensational.

Whispers of our name spread like a vicious lie,
Boring gossip, never did understand why,
Why people love to paint me as the bad guy,
But, I must admit, I do love giving them something to say.

They're upstairs in the writers room,
Leading us down paths that bring us to our doom.
They know we wouldn't last kissing time,
Writing our love just to have it die.
They want us every like static,
Passion turns into something dramatic, almost frantic.
They have a television vision of what we should be,
They always think they know what's best for me.

They think we're on the verge of breaking up,
They just love to hate on this town's gossip.
I have a feeling that they were screenwriters in a past life,
Because they can't seem to separate fiction from something that actually happened last night.
I'm confused by the words they use,
I'm confused by the stories they choose,
Because I know that's not me,
I'll never be what they think I should be.

They're upstairs in the writers room,
Leading us down paths that bring us to our doom.
They know we wouldn't last kissing time,
Writing our love just to have it die.
They want us every like static,
Passion turns into something dramatic, almost frantic.
They have a television vision of what we should be,
They always think they know what's best for me.

They wrote you as my manic pixie dream girl,
They ruined your character, tore apart our home.
They painted me as the antagonist on the verge of vicious kill,
But, behind closed doors, they can't see,
That you and I are so fucking happy.
Maybe we should take the pen from the author's hands,
And write our own story and give them all deserving ends.
We'll look at them with their own television vision,
And make up our own endings, our own decisions.
