"Decontamination

"Decontamination... what does that mean?" Glenn asked from somewhere off to my left, but I didn't look at him, instead focusing on the way Daryl's hands felt in mine, since I had grabbed them off my stomach and were holding them tightly in front of me, trying to distract myself.

Rick grabbed Shane, Glenn, and T-Dog, and dragged them off to the basement where the generators were, while the rest of us when off back to our rooms to start packing our stuff. Daryl and I didn't say much while we packed, instead just continued to send shy glances at each other every once in awhile, and it wasn't until I was feeding Bailey her breakfast that anyone said anything.

"Did you notice that?" Daryl said quietly, looking up at the ceiling, and it took me a minute to notice what he was talking about.

"Why's the air off? Babe, check the lights." I murmured, looking at the vent. Daryl flicked the switch, and nothing happened, and I immediately felt uncomfortable. Daryl dashed to the door and opened it, and everyone was out, asking Jenner questions as he walked down the hall to the main room.

"What's going on? Why is everything turned off?" Someone was asking, but I couldn't quite tell who.

"Energy use is being prioritized." Jenner replied, his voice getting further away, and I knew Daryl would want us to follow, so I threw Bailey's dog bowl into the tub of food and grabbed my backpack, slinging it on, and the clipped my weapons on. When I turned around, Daryl had his backpack and his crossbow on, and was holding the tub of food.

"Let's go." He said, gesturing to the door. I nodded and moved ahead of them, catching up to the group just as Jenner said finished talking.

"Zone 5 is shutting itself down."

"Hey! Hey, what the hell does that mean?" Daryl yelled, coming up beside Bailey and I, dropping the stuff he was carrying, and moving closer to me, and I knew he was itching to protect me, but also didn't know how, so I moved slightly behind him, and gripped his shirt and immediately his shoulders relaxed, only slightly, but still.

Before Jenner could say anything, the power went off, and the whole bunker was silent, but Daryl didn't stop with his questions.

"Hey man, I'm talking to you. What do you mean it's shutting itself down? How can a building do anything?" Daryl asked again, getting more frustrated, so I moved slightly closer so he knew I was there, and tried to keep myself calm, since we were now in a dead bunker.

"You'd be surprised." Was all Jenner said as he sat down in front of a computer.

"Rick?" I heard Lori ask frantically as the other men came back up from the basement, but Rick ignored her, focusing all his attention on Jenner.

"Jenner, what's happening?" Rick asked sternly.

"The system is dropping all the nonessential uses of power. It's designed to keep the computers running to the last possible second. That started as we approached the half-hour mark. Right on schedule. It was the French." Everyone was silent, but Rick asked about his about-face.
