We've been on the road for two weeks

We've been on the road for two weeks. Two weeks of Rick making every single decision, and us living in our cars. But, Rick has been pretty good about listening to Hershel, about when we should stop for breaks and things like that, since apparently it's bad for pregnant women to stay in cars for too long. So every two to three hours we get out, if we haven't already stopped somewhere for the night, and stretch our legs.

"So, what do you think doc?" Daryl said to Hershel, horridly as Hershel finished up his weekly exam of Lori and I, during our fifteen minute break.

"I still think she's at about seven months now. So it shouldn't be too much longer. But you're looking good, maybe a little thin since we got on the road, but you're doing alright. Lori on the other hand..." Hershel trailed off, looking over at Lori who was sitting in the car, silent, as usual, with her feet up on the dash, ignoring everything around her.

She's been like that since Rick told us he killed Shane. Silent, brooding. Angry, mostly. But she also wasn't eating, wasn't drinking enough, and hardly got out of the car, even when we stopped for the night.

"Do you think the baby will be okay?" I whispered to Hershel, as he pulled down my shirt, and started to pack up his stethoscope.

"Yours, definitely. It's far enough along, and has received amazing nutrition for the seven months before now. But Lori's baby... I don't know. If she keeps on like this, continues not to care for herself? I think the baby might have some detriments."

"Like wha'?" Daryl grunted out, as he wrapped his arms around me from behind, settling his large warm hands over mine where they rested on my stomach.

"Well... nutrition carries an extremely large role in fetal development. The baby could be underdeveloped, it could have neurological defects, decreased muscle development, decreased senses, underdeveloped eyes... it could be anything. But I would be surprised if the baby doesn't have something wrong with it, if she continues this way. It could... It could even die. She could miscarry, or deliver early."

I looked over my shoulder at Daryl, who was already looking at me, seeming very concerned, but I knew what I had to do.

"I'll talk to her. She just needs some... tough love... encouragement maybe." Hershel looked up at me, a little wary maybe, I mean I understand it. We've only known each other for two months maybe, I would be surprised if he trusted me yet, especially since we never really talked until after the farm... but she was still my sister-in-law, and I'm one of the last three people that knew her 'before' and I know what she needs.

She needed it with Carl too.

"All right, wrap it up! Time to move out!" Rick hollered out, slamming his axe into the head of a lone walker who had come up from behind us, but he was right, our fifteen minutes was up. So I guess my talk with Lori would have to come at the next break.

God I hope we find somewhere permanent soon.

A/N: Alright guys! So the next several chapters, aren't really going to be season 3. They're going to cover the time between season 2 and 3. That time span, lasts (by my calculations) about seven months, which would mean that you guys would miss Riley's baby being born, so I thought you all would prefer this!

But, just so you guys kind of know what's going on: in the book, I said that Lori was about six weeks pregnant (going by when Rick got back, and we may find out that she is more pregnant than Riley thought later, but who knows) and at that time, Riley was about six and a half months pregnant. That makes her seven months pregnant now, and Lori about two months.

So, what Rick is trying to do right now, which will be discussed more next chapter, is he is trying to find somewhere where they can both give birth, and that's why they only get a few breaks every day, and they're not very long, because he is trying to find somewhere.

But anyway, thank you so much if you made it all the way through that very long A/N (IF YOU DID'NT GO BACK AND READ IT, IT HAS INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON) and I will be posting another chapter here in just a little bit! Hope you enjoy, and sorry it was short, the next one will be longer!
