SPOILERS I REPEAT MAJOR SPOILERS. P.S I have no idea what to call this chapter. Leave suggestions.
It wasn't like Peter wasn't used to losing people but that didn't make it hurt any less when he did. It all didn't seem real at first and it was all so fast but it was real and Mr. Stark was gone. He wished he had more time with him. That he had time to tell him he loved him and thought of him as a father. But there was nothing he could do now he was gone. Now he was standing at a house he didn't recognize that he was told was Mr. Stark's with a bunch of his childhood heroes who he couldn't even look in the eyes without sobbing.
Peter's eyes felt like they were on fire as May rested her hands on Peter's shoulders in an attempt to comfort him as he watched the reactor drift into the abyss of the grey lake.
After the service, everyone filled the lake house to pick at the lunch that was prepared eating as much as they were able. Peter didn't touch his plate he couldn't eat anything he felt too empty, too exhausted to even lift the fork to his mouth. It was too crowded everyone was talking and moving around the house everyone stopping to console him. he had to be alone.
Peter made his way to the dock and sat down staring out at the water. This was really his first chance to process everything and he could feel a river of emotions flood him as he began to break down crying. After a few minutes, he could hear a quiet voice behind him obviously belonging to a child.
"Are you ok?"
Peter ran his sleeve across his wet eyes and did his best to plaster on a smile.
"ye...ah yeah I am ok" he turned to face the young girl "what are you doing out here all alone?"
"Well, I wanted to make sure you were ok." she sat down on the dock next to him swinging her legs back and forth before bringing her attention back to the teenager. "Are you Peter?" she asked with a small smile.
"That's me," Peter said trying to return the smile well also wondering how the kid knew his name.
"Really?!" Morgan was almost bouncing up and down with excitement.
"Yep" Peter's smile grew just a little bit seeing how happy the child had become.
"am Morgan," she said
"Nice to meet you Morgan" Peter returned still giving the child a soft smile
"My daddy told me a lot of stories about you." the child said returned to swinging her legs back and forth on the porch.
"Did he now?" Peter was still very confused but then again he was confused about basically everything ever since he got back.
"mhm, The Amazing Spider-Man and Invincible Iron Man those were my favorite stories."
It was at this everything seemed to click he was talking to Morgan Stark. Mr. Starks daughter. He could feel his eyes flare up again and his voice cracked slightly as he spoke.
"Really? what did your dad say in his stories?"
"He always said you were his favorite superhero how you were the bravest and the kindest superhero he had ever met."
Peter could feel his eyes fill with water just waiting to overflow.
Morgan continued "He would tell me stories about how you insisted on filming big fights and make jokes and take down big guys with movie references."
Peter let out a small chuckle and let her keep talking.
"Sometimes he would tell me about how you would help him in the lab and sometimes you would fall asleep on top of the giant stack of papers. He rambled a lot when I asked about you he really liked telling stories about you."
Peter felt a single hot tear roll down his check but wiped it away before the child noticed.
"I would ask if I would ever get to meet you and he said he really hoped so. He would always say you couldn't meet me yet because you were busy but he promised I could meet you as soon as you came back."
Three more tears left Peter's eyes as he began to imagine all the times he had missed out on and how many more stories there could have been how many more could happen but won't. not anymore.
"Where did you go?" Morgan asked.
Peter was caught off guard by the question and simply responded with "what?"
"My Daddy said you went somewhere and couldn't come back quite yet. Where did you go?"
Peter took in a deep breath before pulling the 4-year-old closer to him. "It doesn't matter I am here now aren't I?"
"Yeah" Morgan smiled softly before resting her head on Peter's chest. You're not gonna leave again are you?"
"I am not going anywhere," he said smiling back down at her. She looked up at him locking her big brown eyes with his.
"Promise?"
Peter took a breath and responded "promise."
Morgan moved her head back down to his chest staring out at the lake. "good because he really missed you and I wanna get to know my new big brother."
Peter's heart skipped a beat he had a little sister.
"I really missed him too and I am going to be there for you I promise I wouldn't let down my new little sister."
