Mike's POV
I just sat outside on the front porch this early in the morning. The moon was still out and bright and I stared at it...I have no idea for how long I was looking up at it, it was like the moon had sucked me into a vortex and whisked me away to some kind of fantasy world. I only snapped out of it when I heard Lori sitting down next to me on the front porch steps, "Hey...what are you doin out here?" I ask quietly. Lori shrugs, "I woke up and it was really hot...I saw you weren't there" she said, "Sorry...I couldn't sleep and I just needed some air...I see you did too obviously" I laugh at the end of my sentence, Lori laughs too and lies her head on my shoulder. Together we stare at the moon, "I'm sorry..." I say, letting the rest of my sentence crumple and disappear, Lori looks up at me, "For what?" She asks looking concerned again...the same look she had when I told her about what James had asked me. I felt my heart speeding up again because I didn't want a repeat of an outcome I saw not long ago. I look at Lori right in her beautiful blue sparkling eyes, "I'm sorry for upsetting you...you looked really upset...I know it's because I asked you..." I somehow lost my voice at the end. I couldn't spit the rest of my words out...so I made no effort to finish. Lori understood what I meant, and she wraps her arms tightly around me and holds me the way I've always held her. I could hear her crying again, "It wasn't you Mike...I promise you, you could never upset me...but these past few days...have been strange" she says. I look over at her and she gently and slowly pulls away from me, "Strange?" I ask, "How?". Lori takes a deep breath and gathers her thoughts before finally explaining, "Mike...We're coming up on the anniversary of...that night, a lot of things trigger those memories how especially that the same date is coming up" she says, I give her a puzzled look, "Oh? I...never even noticed" I say quietly, "Why do you remember that date so well?" I ask her. There's a reason she remembers nearly everything from that night AND the date. Something else did happen, and I think she might tell me...and I felt myself becoming terrified as she started to open her mouth to finish explaining...just as she was about to...James came outside and sat between us, "Hey...what are you doing up so early?" I ask him, James shrugs. "I heard you guys talking out here...and I couldn't sleep anyways..." his voice faded at the end too. Lori and I exchange serious looks with each other and Lori gives him a friendly nudge on the arm, "Hey...I don't ever want you to worry about your father and I getting a divorce, okay? Because we Promise you and Elise that it will never happen" Lori finished while planting a kiss on his head, he nods his head and I wrap my arm around him as well as Lori does. We both give him a kiss on the cheek. And we got the biggest grin out of him once we did...I knew that James was alright now.
