Chapter Thirteen

James' POV

When Ashely had opened the door I couldn't believe what I was seeing! "ELISE!" I yelled as I ran over and wrapped my arms tightly around her! I knew that this wasn't a dream...she was real! She was really here! Safe and sound and unharmed, "Wait! How did you-?" Ashley started to say, then I look at Elise and think the same thing, "Yeah...how did you get here? Where were you?!" I ask. Elise still looked frightened even though she made it back home alive, "James...Mommy and Daddy are in trouble!" She says, Ashley's eyes widen, "Trouble!? What do you mean? What the hell is going on?" She says confused. I was just as confused, "What are you talking about Elise?" I ask, she starts crying, "The bad guys told me! It's all a trap! They're after mommy and daddy!" She screams. I start panicking again, "Oh my God! We have to warn them!" I shout, "Ashley you have a phone! Call one of them now!" I shout and Ashley doesn't hesitate. She pulls out her phone and immediately starts phoning one of our parents.

Lori's POV

Mike and I were driving again...I was losing hope even though I wasn't supposed to and my heart ached so much I felt like I could drop dead right here in the passenger seat. Suddenly my phone rang...I pulled it out and was surprised...and worried to see it was Ashley the neighbor girl calling, "Mike...It's the neighbor girl watching James" I say, Mike shrugs and raises his eyebrows, "Well answer it!" He says with a frustrated tone, I clicked the answer button and heard Ashley, "Where are you guys!? You need to come back here now!" She says in a panicked tone, all Mike needed to hear were those words and he was speeding off towards home while I still talk to Ashley on the phone, "What! Why!? What's happening!?" I ask, "Well for one your daughter is here! Elise is HERE Mrs. Vitar! Do you hear that!?" She says. Mike and I began laughing hysterical and Mike was shouting and screaming with joy. My heart ache suddenly went away fully, "So why do you sound worried?" I ask. Ashley takes a moment to respond, "Because whatever you guys are dealing with isn't over! Elise says it was all a big trap to get to you two! Now they know where you guys are and where you and your kids live" she explains. My heart dropped, Mike still had his foot to the floor and gunning the gas pedal to try and get home. I wasn't worried at all about probably getting into a car accident with Mike as much as I was about World War III happening at our own house.

James' POV

Strange vehicles were starting to pile up in our driveway and in front of the curb to our house. I hide Elise behind my back and Ashley puts the both of us behind her, "Get to your parents room! Lock the door!" She yells. Elise and I do not hesitate and we do not argue, I took Elise tightly by the hand and we sprint to the bedroom. I was running so fast to mom and dad's room I was practically dragging Elise down the hall. I shove her into the room first and quickly shut and lock the door behind me, "What do we do!? They're gonna find us here!" Elise yells. I start looking around, I knew Dad had guns here somewhere, he was serious about being safe and protecting us. I started looking for the gun, I knew he had at least two of them, "Elise help me look for one of Dad's guns now!" I say and she starts looking through dresser drawers and under the bed and I search the closet. I heard violent noises from outside and I heard Ashley screaming. Elise jumps up and runs over to me gripping tightly on my shirt, "James I'm scared!" She says, "Get in the closet!" I say and she jumps inside and I throw a giant comforter over her to hide her, "Stay quiet!" I say. I kept searching the closet for the gun when finally it fell on top of my head from the top of the closet along with a few bullets. I load the gun, I learned a lot about guns from TV. It's amazing what television can teach a kid. I heard glass breaking and muffled screaming from the hall, I take the gun off safety and aim at the bedroom door. I was waiting until one of the intruders kicked down the door...it never came. Silence was all I heard out there, the only thing I could hear now was the sound of my own heart beat. Tha-dump Tha-dump Tha-Dump. Still nothing happened, no more screaming, violent sounds of shoving, glass breaking, etc. However, I kept the gun aimed at the door anyways.

Lori's POV

Mike crashed into the driveway of our house ramming right into the back of one of the black vehicles. He once again pulls out the gun and we hurry inside. Once we got in, there was a lamp on the floor which was flickering, broken glass scattered everywhere. I heard muffled screaming and I moved closer to it, Mike right next to me aiming the gun in various directions just to be sure no one made a surprise attack on us. In the hallway we had found Ashley hogtied and gagged with a piece of cloth. I rushed over to help her and Mike kept the gun aimed and covered me, Once I freed Ashley she told us where the kids were, "Both of them are here! I told them to go in your room and lock the door! No one has gone in there" she says. Mike and I nod, "Stay with us for a whilelonger, I wouldn't go outside alone if I were you" Mike said. Ashley nods and leads us to the kids, I knock gently on the door while crying, "Kids...It's mommy" I say quietly. I heard the door unlock and I saw James with Mike's other gun, Elise was coming out of the closet and hurries over to us, Mike and I wrap our arms tightly around both of the kids and Mike broke down in tears when he saw Elise and covered her in kisses and hugs. I did the same. All of us, including Ashley, packed ourselves in the bedroom together and Mike slammed and locked the door again. The rest of us sat on the bed and I held both of the kids in my arms while Mike paced the room. Ashley sat in the corner of the room with her head buried between her knees, "What are we gonna do now?" I ask, Mike looks at us, "We're gonna stay in here for now, if anyone tries coming in here I'm blowing their fuckin head off!" He says. Next thing we knew a hand had busted through the door and Mike spun around and shot at him, the hand was gushing blood followed by a deep scream and whoever was out there fell back against the wall. I cover the kids as they scream and cry, "I'm calling the police!" I say, and pull out my phone and start dialing 9-1-1, Mike was nodding, "Yeah that's a good idea..." he says quietly. So far no one else had attempted to bust down the door, then we heard a voice, "Mikey! Come out come out!" He said. All of us sat in dead silence as we listened, "Who are you?! What do you want!?" Mike shouts to the other side of the door. The deep voice responds, "It's time to end what began twenty-one years ago! When we had you in our grasp when you betrayed us!" He yelled, Mike slammed his fist against the wall, "GODDAMN IT I NEVER BETRAYED YOU I WANTED NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU PATHETIC GANG OR DRUGS! I MADE ONE MISTAKE!" Mike screams back. The man outside just laughed, "Oh no boy! You did betray us! And you killed my brother you FUCKER! AND NOW I'M GONNA KILL YOUR FAMILY WHILE YOU WATCH!"  the man screamed, Mike ran his fist thought the wall this time. I held the kids tighter in my arms as they kept their heads buried in my sides and their ears plugged, "You know what?..." Mike says softly, "You think I betrayed you that much, go ahead and kill me then, torture me, kill me, do what you want...but leave my family alone they have nothing to do with the mistake I made back then" he says. I started sobbing and the kids popped their heads up, "DAD NO!" James yells, Mike was tearing up, "It's okay buddy" he whispers, "This is my fault...I'm the one that should pay the price for it..." he whispers, I couldn't even get anymore words out of my mouth. My entire body just ached as well as my heart. He can't do this! And he can't be serious either!. Mike was crying now, "I love you guys so much!" He says, All of us where in crocodile tears now. I couldn't believe this! And I'm just sitting here! Not saying anything, Mike had slowly opened the door and our faces turned blue from us crying so hard and not taking a breath. When Mike opened the door...BANG BANG BANG!.
