Chapter 7 - Rain

After Kyria disappeared around the corner, Akira whipped around to glare at Cassie.

"You're not my girlfriend!" He shouted,"why would you say something like that? You come back, expect me to be here with open arms, then you screw with my life, no!"

"She's in the way of us," Cassie protested.

"There is no us anymore Cassie, get that through your head. No us!" And with that he turned and ran after Kyria.

Kyria knelt down by the stream and splashed herself in the face with water. Then looked down at her reflection. Her brown hair was a mess from running out of the town to her favorite spot by the stream, and her face was red and puffy from crying. A water bug ran across her reflection, distorting it so she couldn't see anymore.

Kyria leaned back against a tree and hugged her knees. She glanced up at the cloudy sky.

"I didn't think Akira was the kind of guy that would cheat. I thought I'd finally got it right this time," Kyria thought, tears welling up in her eyes again. She blinked rapidly.

"I really like him." Kyria thought burying her head in her arms. "I thought he cared about me. We spent so much time together. I loved his smile and his little curl that hung down into his face, and the way he laughed when I responded to his teasing. And the little twinkle he got in his eye when he laughed. And oh his eyes! They made me melt whenever I got mad at him." Kyria was crying again. Her thoughts causing her to remember everything she loved about Akira and then it brought on the betrayal she felt. By now she was sobbing, tears streaming down her face.

Then it began to rain, the water from the sky mixing with the water falling from her eyes.

After a few minutes of sobbing she calmed down, rain sliding down her face. a blanket fell around her shoulders.

"Why are you sitting out here in the rain, it's cold" Kyria turned around and saw Akira standing there, a sorry smile on his face.

"I like the rain." Kyria said coldly turning back around," you should go away, go hang out with your real girlfriend."

"Look, she's not my girlfriend. She's my ex who cheated on me then decided she wanted me back, I don't want her back."

"Why should I believe you?"

"Did you hear me say that she was my girlfriend?"

"No..." Kyria replied, looking down at the ground.

"She's a jerk and I don't want anything to do with her. I do care about you Kyria." Akira said then sat down next to Kyria under the blanket. Kyria stiffened at first but then relaxed.

"I only went to go talk to her, to tell her to go away and leave me alone when you showed up and she said that." Akira looked angry when Kyria looked up at him. When she saw the anger on his face she finally believed him.

"Okay, is she going to leave you alone?" Kyria asked.

"Probably not, so don't listen to anything she says, anything and everything she say will be false, okay?"

Kyria glanced up at Akira, his face was stern and pleading.

"Okay." She replied looking back down at the ground. Akira slipped his hand into Kyria's. She felt the water from the rain in his hand but despite the cold his hand was still warm. She scooted closer to him and put her head on his shoulder.

They sat for a while, watching the rain drops hit the surface of the stream, when Akira said," so the office was closed?"

"Yeah, updates, you know how that goes.

"Oh gotcha." He replied,"we can try again tomorrow."

"Okay, it's getting pretty cold out here, we should head back to the inn or go shopping somewhere, inside" Kyria said standing up, and pulling Akira up with her. Once they were both standing Akira pulled Kyria into a hug.

"I'm so sorry Kyria. But I want you to know I really like you, and no one else." With that he kissed her. The warmth from his lips startled Kyria, but she kissed back. Akira ran his hand through her wet hair. Then they parted, both their faces red from the cold and the kiss.

Akira took Kyria's hand and they started to walk towards town.
