Chapter 19 - The Boss

The trio glanced at each other, the open dark entrance stared back at them. Akira was the first to step forward. They slowly entered the room. After they had all gone in a stone fell from the ceiling, covering the door and shutting them in.

An eerie silence fell, not a single sound could be heard except the beating of their hearts. A few seconds passed and nothing happened.

Akira jumped as Allen spoke, "where is the boss?"
But as he spoke one by one bone shaped candles ignited all around the edge of the room revealing a small, hunched figure in the back.

"That's the boss?" Maya whispered, raising en eyebrow.

"Don't be too quick to judge," Akira said bending his knees and raising his sword," get ready it's bound to come soon."

Straightening jerkily, the boss swiveled unnaturally around, arms hanging loosely at its sides, head cocked at an angle. He was a skeleton. A strangely dressed skeleton. He wore a white shirt, black basketball shorts, a blue jacket and slippers. One of his eyes was completely dark and the other was lit up and blue. On his face he wore a smile. Above his head, it read "THE COMEDIAN".

"Again, that's the boss?" Maya said skeptically.

Suddenly the boss shot forward, stopping right in front of Akira and whispered "kid, you wanna have a bad time?" Then he flipped backwards into the middle of the room, hovering just above the floor. Goosebumps shot up Akira's whole body.

"Let's go!" Akira said lunging toward the boss. But as he neared the boss, it pulled bones out of its pocket and hurled them at him. He dove and rolled out the way, and they shattered against the wall.

"It's got projectiles!" He yelled as Allen attacked from the side, landing a hit on the distracted skeleton. Maya stood by the door, waiting to attack.

A ring of blue and white bones appeared around the boss, spinning. Then they shot out, Akira didn't have enough time to react but the blue bone went right through him, no damage taken. However, a white bone hit Maya and she stumbled back, her HP bar dropping a bit.

"Hold still if a blue bone comes at you!" Akira relayed to the other two. They continued on for a few minutes, dodging and holding still, landing attacks on the boss. After they damaged it enough. The boss shot into the air, it's eye flaming blue. It raised its hands and dragon-like heads appeared next to him. Their mouths opened and started to glow.

"Dodge!" Maya shouted, jumping to the side as a laser beam shot passed her, missing by a fraction of an inch. A couple more dragon heads appeared and shot more lasers. They dodged. They kept attacking relentlessly, jumping, weaving, and rolling, landing and taking blows. Akira kept an eye on the other two's HP bars as the fight progressed, making sure they never dropped too low.

The dragon heads disappeared and boss reverted back to bone attacks but they were much faster this time.

As the boss's HP dropped lower and lower the attacks increased in speed, until it's HP was almost zero. When it was almost dead, it froze, dropping to the floor, slumped over,

Akira slacked his arms, his breaths coming in short bursts. Maya wiped sweat off her forehead and glanced at Akira, looking confused.

After a few seconds of no movement, Akira slowly moved around to see the boss's face. As he got near he saw it's eyes were closed and it was sleeping! Akira looked up at the other two, shocked. Akira slowly lifted his sword, but as Akira moved to deliver the final blow, it's eyes shot open, it's left eye now flaming in rainbow colors. The flame shooting out the side of it's eye was larger than it had ever been. The boss shot into the air cocooned in hundreds of bones. Faster than the blink of an eye, all the bones pointed at Akira and shot.

"AKIRA!!!!!" Allen yelled as he ran, jumping just in time to take the blow of all the bones. As if in slow motion Akira watched in horror as the bones pierced his best friend in the chest, his HP bar dropping slowly, turning from green, to yellow, to orange, to red. Akira lunged forward, a red potion in hand. He grabbed Allen's head, and opened his mouth. He frantically poured the potion into his open mouth, hands shaking.

The boss, now collapsed on the floor, laughing hysterically. Maya was standing above it.

"Kids like you should be burning in-" Before it could finish Maya stabbed it a final time. It shattered.

Akira stared in shock at the seemingly empty HP bar above Allen's head, tears streaming down his face.

"Please work, please let him not be dead. Please. Please! PLEASE!"
