"Sometimes we must deceive the ones we love." - Emma Carstairs

CHAPTER EIGHT

Freya Aldrich

I woke up in the dark with sunlight streaming from a window in the far side whereas I was at a dark corner, on a bed. I sat up and while I did I can feel that almost every part of my body was sore.

I looked around, further inspecting my surroundings. I was specifically in a prison cell. A clean prison cell with a small wooden table and chair where the sunlight was streaming on.

I checked myself and saw that I had an over-sized black shirt and guy shorts. I also saw outlines of scratches and a few bigger claw marks, on my legs, shoulder, arms and I think some on my back too.

I tried to think back of what happened before here. All I got is that I somehow I got in the Verlac Pack, saw my mate again but he didn't recognize me as his, I ran away from him AGAIN, and ran for my life while fighting for my life as well.

Although I did remember those parts, everything seemed like a dream or a nightmare because in my head its all a blur, like I saw it happen but it just passed by.

I got a headache after thinking about that. I was thirsty and hungry all together but I didn't find anything on the table and I didn't want to call for anyone. So I slept back again.

I woke up again but this time I wasn't alone, there was someone on the table with an apple and a plate of sandwich, which made my stomach grumble.

"Well? Are you just gonna sit there and starve while you're at it?" The guy tells me in monotone, sounding like he really didn't care what I would do.

"Who are you?" I asked the stranger in the same tone. i was gonna show him that he's not the superior one here just because I was the one literally imprisoned.

He sighed and stop eating the apple. "That's my line, you know." he stood up and towered over me and I had to crane my head up to look at him. "So rogue, who are you?"

"Jonah, can you relax, you're scaring our guest." A new smiling stranger who looked a bit younger came in the cell and left the door open. Basically that was the first step to an escape route because I was eyeing the open door for a few seconds more than I should have.

"Well hello! I'm the one who found you in our woods, care to explain yourself?" The guy was still smiling while he carried a chair near the bed and sat down in front of me.

"Ummm, I got lost?" Jonah, the grumpy one, snickered while this new smiling stranger just nodded his head.

"You smell of rogue but with the injuries I've found you with last night, you seem to be a newbie. How long were you a rogue since?" I was asked a few more questions like that one. Probably protocol for packs to make sure that I'm not a threat.

Throughout the questions though I made up a back story that I was a weak wolf that was captured by rogues for a few weeks and got away last night. It made me a little bit angry that they easily believed it. That's because for them, all rogues are crazy, greedy, monsters when in truth not all of us are like that, maybe we do have a few crazy psychopaths and only a small percentage.
