Breaking and playing hearts of the campus was a game Grizz knew very well. You could almost say he was an expert at it. Some would say he did this because he has a void in his heart, no compassion for the gullible or just no feelings in general. He plays a dangerous game and people are willing to get hurt just to get 2 seconds of his attention.
All the friends he had at the beginning of the 4 years of his university career are no longer friends, they are just mere blank faces he occasionally sees in the halls.
He likes being alone, he revels in the silence that always surrounds him apart from the occasional sound from groups walking by. He grew to not depend on anyone but himself and can't imagine being dependent on someone anymore.
No one quite knew why he left them or why he is so sought after by each gender. It could be the lone wolf appeal or that he is genuinely very attractive.
His every move observed like he is under a microscope. The world he lives in is no longer an escape for him.
No one manages to catch the eye of Grizz. So it is rare that he becomes interested in somebody. He only teases them, plays with their emotions and hearts. He only does one-night stands. No relationships at all. People he sleeps with and has slept with always had an understanding of this but there were always the ones who never seemed to grasp the concept.
Grizz doesn't think any of it. He pushes to the back of his memory, instead focusing at the task at hand. Finding a certain book in the campus library. He goes there for solitude and to get away from the noisy campus. He finally finds it and plucks it off the shelf. He has read 'The King of Torts' by John Grisham at least 50 times, the pages show distress in the upper corners from him making dog ears. He finds his spot in the upper corner of the library, settling down on one of the couches.
By the time he finishes its time to go back to his apartment. He places the book back in its place and says goodbye to Mrs. Anack the campus librarian. God knows how many times she has let him in the library after hours. The walk back is pleasant as he puts his earphones in blasting his music to drown out the outside noise. He feels all the eyes staring at him as he walks, smirking slightly he turns his head and catches the eye of a cute red head and winks at them. They just tilt their head in confusion and go back to the conversation.
Hmmm that's weird, Grizz thought to himself, usually they would blush and look away but this one didn't. He liked that, a challenge. He wants to know why he didn't have much effect on the cute red head. He ponders this for majority of the walk home.
He hangs his jacket on the hook and puts his bag on the table. He goes and starts making dinner for himself and his roommate for when he gets home.
Luke. His roommate of the past 3 years. He never really broke the ice of becoming friends. They both had an understanding of that. Neither pushed it. Grizz usually came home first and would make dinner for the both of them and Luke was usually the first one up and made breakfast. They had an unspoken agreement with each other. To not bother each other unless it was absolutely necessary, which luckily for Grizz it had never gotten to that stage.
The things that Grizz does know about Luke is that he is dating a girl studying law called Helena and started college playing varsity football but decided to stop and pursue a different career. Good for him, Grizz thought.
For Grizz it is easier to not become attached to anyone. No need to be responsible for the person or to feel responsible for them in any way. He doesn't have to worry about what they might be thinking of him or what they feel towards him. He can handle the occasional girl or guy becoming infatuated with him. It was quite normal for people to fawn over him.
He didn't need or want to be attached to someone, not when he only had 2 more years left.
