He walks down the halls with a big smile on his face everyday. Not one person doesn't smile back. His happiness is infectious. With a book in one hand and his camera hanging from his neck, Sam walks out of one of the lecture halls. He is supposed to meet Becca in the library but got distracted by walking down into one of the quads on campus.
He aimlessly walks around picking his camera up, feeling like taking some pictures. Everyone knows he takes pictures of who or whatever captures his eye, so no one thinks any of it. He pans his camera across the the space capturing different things. As he looks into the camera, someone catches his eye. They are sitting in the library in the upper corner with their nose buried in a book. The way that they are sitting combined with the window and the buildings architecture catches Sam's interest. He takes a few pictures before he feels his phone vibrate in his pocket.
It is Becca wondering where he is. He hurries into the library to where Becca is. He signs to her 'sorry I got distracted, had to take some pictures,' he sheepishly shrugs. She just smiles and shakes her head.
She signs back, 'it's fine Sam, I just need your help with which building to study for this assignment I have.' Sam nods in response, it was normal for Becca to ask him his opinion for things like this. Lots of people have said that he has a good eye for anything creative.
He flicks through the book Becca had open, he leaves the book open on the page on the Hagia Sophia Museum. 'This one, you will have fun doing this one Bec,' he signs to her. 'I'm going to find a book to read, be back soon.' Becca knows that she won't see him for a couple of hours.
Walking around the shelves he tries to find one of his favourite books, 'The King of Torts' unfortunately someone took it. He'll just have to find something else.
Sam constantly gets the urge to take photos so it is no surprise that his fingers are itching for his camera. Picking it up he starts taking photos randomly, no one flinching in surprise by the soft shutter of the camera. Sam wishes he could hear it, the sound that is constantly around him.
Sam always seems happy and go-lucky but he does wish he could hear all the sounds of the world. Becca's laugh, his camera shuttering everytime a picture is taken, the sound of his own voice and everything surrounding him. He doesn't always get down like this, it only happens once every few months. He doesn't like being sad so he pushes it to the back of his brain, trying to forget about it. He goes and sits down next to a tall window, staring out just thinking.
Sam always ends up falling asleep and taking naps in the weirdest places and if anyone sees him, they just grab a blanket if there is one and lay it over him. There is not a single soul that hates Sam, they just physically can't.
Becca finds Sam hours later bundled up in a blanket, a soft smile makes it way on her face. Gently shaking him away and signing that they should both get going since the library is going to closes in an hour. They both walk out and see their other friends, Kelly runs up and gives Sam the biggest hug. A tired smile forms and he wraps his arms around her.
'How are you going Kelly?' he signs to her once she stops hugging him.
'I'm pretty good except for some of my anthropology classes kicking me ass at the moment,' she signs back laughing slightly.
They both walk and join the rest of the tight knit group. They start talking and signing for Sam, who starts to get lost in his thoughts, something that happens a lot lately. His mind tends to wander to the most random places. He felt someones gaze on him, swivelling his head he locks eyes with Grizz Visser, the lone wolf of their year. He winks at Sam, confusing him so he just looks away. A few seconds pass and he looks back to where Grizz was walking to see him walk out.
No one has ever winked at Sam before, it's always been sweet smiles. He grows more curious and waves bye to everyone. He heads out and starts walking to his apartment. Along the way he snaps a few photos of cars passing by.
Opening the door he is greeted with his dog Campers. Bending down to pick her up, he cuddles her while walking into his kitchen. He places her down to grab a mug for some tea. He sighs, he wish he had someone living with him but no one wanted to. He only has Campers for company once he leaves college.
All Sam wants is someone to be with. Not in a friendly way, romantically. He craves that type of affection and attention. Everyone might like him but none like him that much to date him. He will always be the red-headed deaf boy with his camera.
He stares out the window thinking of the wink.
