“Whoa, come with me now
I'm gonna take you down
Whoa, come with me now
I'm gonna show you how"
Come With Me Now - Kongos
After the Blade had stopped pulsing through him Dean took some time to actually think about hunting Sam and their conversation. Sam had never actually said he was at the bunker which meant it was entirely possible he wasn't. Dean hadn't exactly been hiding his activities since he had become a demon so Sam would probably have an idea of just how far gone he was. Both of them knew how to get information from demons.
“He did say if roles were reversed he would have let me rot and die, and Sam on a hunt, well he's pretty unstoppable and damn clever.”
The Blade sang to him again, “God damn, a real challenge finally. Sam and I, head on, no holds barred.” His adrenaline started pumping just thinking about it.
He caressed the Blade, “Time to see just how good we are, Baby.” He stood up, looked at the blood on the ground one more time and started laughing. “All right little brother, you told me once you were stronger, faster and smarter than I was, that I just held you back. Time to find out.”
Supplies, he needed a few things. Sirens started coming into the range of his hearing. “Huh, how convenient.” He ducked into some shadows and waited. The cop car pulled up and two cops got out. They never even saw him and he didn't give them time to scream or radio for help.
He looked down at the blood pooling at his feet and resisted drinking any of it, “Thanks for the guns guys.” He was about to send himself to Bobby's when another idea struck him, he walked to the trunk of the cop car, shot the lock out and pulled it open. “Yeah, Sam will never see this coming.”
Once he had what he needed from the trunk he broke into a few businesses to grab a few other things and ended up at an abandoned building. It was time to do some practical research. Could he sense Devil's Traps? He knew Sam would cover the place with them and no demon had ever seemed to notice the ones he and Sam had drawn countless times over the years. He'd never bothered to ask why since it served his purposes but now he was on the other side of things.
“I'm not going to get my ass stuck in some trap and stand there while Sammy tries to kill me.” He knelt down and started drawing the trap from the middle out so that when he finished he'd be standing on the outside of it. With a simple thought the Blade appeared in his hand. He'd gotten much better getting the Blade to him, even from twenty or thirty feet away. He always felt like a Jedi when it shot through the air towards him.
“All right, let's see if we can feel it.” He closed his eyes and extended his demon senses. The Blade started to vibrate but in a slightly different fashion than he was used to. He focused on the Blade, “Do you see it, Baby? Can you feel it? Give me a warning somehow? Let's try it this way.” He stepped away from the trap, putting about ten feet between he and it then started walking towards it again. The closer he got the stronger the vibration was, his hand started to burn. Not the Mark, but his hand, which was something new. “That's it darlin'. We've got this now. Let's try for more distance.” It took a few hours but he and the Blade worked out a system to let him know just how far away a trap was from him. The Blade couldn't pick it up from more than about forty feet away but that was more than enough for Bobby's place. It was time. If he got there way before Sam he could watch him set everything up then slowly destroy his confidence.
“You've always had too much pride anyway Sam. Wouldn't hurt to knock it down a few pegs before I slice your throat.” He gathered all the things he needed, stuffed them in a bag and sent himself to Bobby's.
“Sam, he's here.” Cas said, “I can sense the Blade and since he's a demon now that somewhat invalidates the angel warding I gave him.”
“Where?” Sam asked.
“I can't get an exact location but he's somewhere on the other side of the cars. He's not right outside the door if that helps.”
The tension in the panic room picked up, Coyote's face went blank and he saw Cougar flex his huge hands. There weren't that many people that made Sam feel small, Cougar was one of them. “Ok, all of you stay here. He shouldn't be able to get in. Cas...”
Castiel, the Captain of an entire garrison of angels, slowly manifested as Sam watched. His features stilled, becoming something otherworldly agan and Sam knew if Cas still had his wings they would be silhouetted on the wall behind him. “I'll stay here, you have my word Sam. I'll keep them safe.” An Angel blade appeared in his hand. Sam's hands went to the inside of his coat where he had put the one he had stolen from Cas earlier. “Always carry a spare. I learned that long before I met you two.”
Sam, nodded in salute to the angel's wisdom. He took one last look at the few remaining friends he had, grabbed the box and left the room. He made sure that he was out of view of the panic room, set the box down and opened it. Three gallon jugs of demon blood were nestled inside it. He knew that he'd have to face Dean the minute he walked into Dean's room and saw he was gone and the Blade was missing.
“I don't even know if I will be able to exorcise or even hurt him since we know the rituals don't work. Will I be strong enough? The question that made me start drinking this shit in the first place. Damn it. Too late now for pointless regrets.”
He popped the lid off the first bottle and started downing it as fast as he could. Within seconds the blood within him responded to what he was pouring down his throat, whipsawing through him like a bolt of lighting. By the time he finished the first one the demonic energy was ripping at his mind, it needed to be unleashed. He picked up the next one and let out the memories of how Lucifer had felt inside of him before Sam had managed to regain control of his body. Just the memory heightened the strength of the blood. He knew he technically didn't need the blood to use his powers but it helped focus and strengthen him, made it easier for his mind to access what Azazel had cursed him with all those years ago. Power calls to power. When he started on the third, what was left of his soul had shriveled inside of him. Dean wanted to kill him, the same Dean that had called him a freak and a monster when all he was trying to do was help. The same Dean that had told him to never come back, that called him weak, that blamed him for everything. That had held him back when he could have been so much more. That had tricked him, lied to him and let Gadreel possess him.
“That Mark on your arm is the only thing that makes you special Dean. I've been special since I was born, you bastard. I've always been stronger than you. You know how I know? Because I fucking left. You're the one that can't handle being alone, ever. Time to show you once and for all who the weak one really is.”
