I woke up startled by my foster mom, Maya. She is opening my curtains and singing some song I never even heard before. I looked at the clock and it read ten minutes to five a.m. on a Saturday. Luckily school didn't start for another month.

"What the hell, Maya!" I screamed at her. She does this all the time and it makes me wonder if it's worth living here.

"You have to go to work, don't you?" I looked at her and wondered how my eyes didn't roll out of my head.

"Dude! It's not until eight!" I yelled.

"You still need to get up." I rolled my eyes and started to get up. She started walking out once she was satisfied that I wouldn't go back to bed.

"Whatever, Maya," she turned around and glared at me.

"You better watch that attitude, Skye. I am your guardian and you need to respect that," she explained. I loved Maya, I did, but sometimes she drove me crazy.

My mom died when I was eleven and my dad was too busy to take care of me. It wasn't his fault and I knew he tried and how hard he worked, but it wasn't enough. I needed more. So, I ended up in state custody when I was fourteen. At this time, I lived in a little town called Georgetown, North Dakota.

Instead of foster parents looking for me, I asked if I could choose the parents I would be staying with. I didn't want to end up in a family that only wanted me for the money benefits and that's what I told the social service lady, Rosie, who is assigned to me. She is a plump twenty-five-year-old. She has a husband and a little girl named Leslie. She is like an older sister to me once we got to know each other. After thinking for a couple days about my request, Rosie let me choose my foster parents.

Of course, it had to be foster parents the state approved of. I couldn't just find any family I wanted.

I came across the Davis family when I was flipping through the files and saw them, something about them drew me in. They lived in a bigger town than Georgetown, but not that much bigger. The town was called Mansfield, still located in North Dakota. They had been looking for a child to adopt since their kids are moved out and the Davis' felt like they weren't done having kids yet, but Maya couldn't have kids anymore. Aaron, Maya's husband, was crushed.

Maya is a petite young woman. You can tell she is familiar with money. She isn't rich, but she isn't poor. She can attract the eye of females and males, but she doesn't pay attention, nor does she care. That's probably why I like her so much. She is always pleasant to everyone, even if people act like snobby people. Maya claims that they just need love.

Maya was so excited when she found out she was able to adopt a teenager and she cried when she saw me. At first I did not know how to talk to Maya because I thought we were way too different, but eventually her and I learned who each other were and we became really close. I told Rosie that I didn't want Maya and Aaron to learn everything from a manila folder, but from me so they can get the full story and nothing gets left out. Maya and Aaron accepted that I would tell them when I was ready and that's exactly what I did. About a month of living there I decided it was time I told them about my life. Maya cried with me and Aaron kept hugging me and leaving his hand on the small of my back. I knew then I choose the perfect family.

Aaron is very open and funny. He can make you laugh even if you have tears rolling down your face. He is down to earth and never cares about anyone. The few people he does, makes you feel like you're a goddess or a queen. He is obsessed with football, but who isn't? He roots for the Browns even if they suck. Sometimes Aaron would threaten to take the place of the player that was being terrible. It never failed to make me laugh, especially when he yelled at the T.V trying to tell them how stupid they are, but they never heard him. It was a shame really that they couldn't hear him.
