Chapter 2
Alyssa awoke. Every part of her body hurt. It had all gone downhill fast. If this was what death felt like, she didn't like it. She rubbed her eyes and looked up. All around her, she could see demolished rubble of the ship. The roof was completely gone and it was a miracle she hadn't been destroyed on impact. Alyssa stood up completely confused and looked around. She was in a large field with odd plants swishing gently around her. The sky was green, unlike any she had seen on Proserpine. It appeared that the popular theory of alternate dimensions was correct, unless she was dead already. She took two steps forward, then the world flipped. When she came to, once more, she was in a large tiled room. In front of her was a simple table with a single flask on it. It said "Drink me". She laughed once and knelt on the floor sobbing.
To be honest, Alyssa was not in her best place right now. The black hole had quickly swallowed her and she was in it for what seemed like eternity. All of a sudden, she could see an ending and promptly blacked out. She knew she was incredibly lucky not to have died, but still.
"Can I help you?" a voice had interrupted her mental breakdown. "You don't look too good. Are you okay?" Alyssa looked up at her saviour and laughed once more, but more hysterically. The voice was coming from a tall blonde. The male backed away in surprise. "Who are you? And why do you look exactly like me?" His hand was still out, giving her something to support herself with. Alyssa took the proffered hand and stood up. "Can you speak?"
"I can." Her voice was raspy. "My name is Alyssa."

Alex was done at this point. He had tried to be friendly, but this was too far. Saying hello to a random person was one thing, helping a female version of himself understand the world they were in was another. Alyssa had stood up and started speaking. Apparently, she had come from an alternate dimension on the planet Proserpine and gotten here through a black hole.
"Okay, Alyssa. We're going to leave this room and I'll take you to a place where you can rest." He had no clue why she was in the locus, specifically his Room of Doors, but a mental hospital was a better place for her than with him. He picked up the vial of Subtraxinium. "Here, drink this. It'll shrink you so we can leave through that door." Alex pointed at the door to Quadrille Beach. He would have preferred to go directly through the silvis, but it was the best he could do. Hopefully William would help him deal with this crazy.
"Don't you need some for you to shrink?" Her large blue eyes looked at him in confusion, while fingering the label.
"Nah, I'm good. I carry my own personal doses with me. These are just for guests." Alyssa nodded and downed the bottle before he could stop her. "Wait!" The girl had gone down to the size of an ant. Alex cringed and took his regular dose. Within seconds, he was the size of a mouse. Leaning down, he peered at the tiny female.
"I was about to tell you to only take 30 ml. Here. He reached into his pocket and gave her a chunk of cake soaked in Excresco serum. She broke it into pieces and ate it. She grew back to his size, clearly discombobulated.
"Why did you take the whole bottle? Don't you have Subtraxium back in your 'dimension'?" he asked, adding air quotes.
"No. Thanks for the heads up by the way," Alyssa replied woozily. Her identical blonde hair was draped over her face, as she supported herself on his arm.
"C'mon. We should get going. No sense in staying here another minute." Alex gently nudged her toward the closed door. Alyssa tried the handle. Locked. Alex swore.
