Rain pounded against the window of her small room, matching her mood quite nicely. Her glossy eyes stared at the screen as her fingers ferociously hit the keys of her keyboard, spilling her heart and soul into the same piece that she had rewritten about ten times in the course of an hour. She was determined to make it this perfect time, she was determined to have it accepted. The first time the idea for this poem came to mind was over a week ago and she had written, erased, and revised the same words over and over again. Each time she thought she finished it, she ended up finding fault in her words and got frustrated, resulting in her starting over.
She could still remember the first time that she thought she was done, that she thought it was good. It was two days after the idea first popped into her head. She had spent hours upon hours writing those few paragraphs and she was finally pleased with the outcome. So, with a small smile, she pulled out her phone, opened the app and began constructing the message that she would send. This message would determine if her work would get featured on the app or not, so it needed to be perfect. 'Hi! I'm Keiju! This is a piece that I have just recently written and I was wondering if this would be good enough to feature? And if not, could you explain why? Thank you! Here's the link-...' Pleased with how the message looked, she took in a deep breath and hit send. Her eager eyes watched the screen load before the message finally sent. There was no way she could go back now, and it sort of scared her. She had always been nervous to show people her writings, but the urge to become a good writer drove her to send it in nonetheless. Almost immediately, her phone lit up, showing its owner that she had received a message. Her heart raced as she anxiously tapped in her password and pulled open the message. 'Hello Keiju, I'm sorry, but I don't think we can feature your poem at this time.. It is a bit choppy and really needs some work.. But feel free to retype it and send it back in! You have a good style!' Her eyes widen a small bit as a familiar tingling sensation in the back of her nose brought forth warm tears.
Keiju had sent in her piece many times since then, each time resulting in the same response just altered ever so slightly. She was beginning to get discouraged, but her friends kept pushing her to try again, assuring her that she was an amazing writer and that her poem would one day be featured. Their praise had helped her gain the confidence to erase the words and try once more, but now that she was done, every ounce of that confidence had left and she couldn't bring herself to send it in again.
"C'mon hun!! You already have the message typed out, just click send! It is really good! I promise you!" Piper urged with a sincere smile, gently nudging her friend's arm. This brown haired girl had been her best friend for ages and never failed to find the beauty in everything Keiju did, even when she couldn't see it herself. "Ah.. I uh.. I don't know.. What if it's not good? What if they don't accept it? I do not have the.. The uh.. Gosh, I don't even know what I am trying to say!" She exclaimed in a frustrated tone, stumbling over her words as she attempted to form some thoughts together, The writer threw herself back onto the bed, burying her face in the pile of blankets surrounding her. She wanted to hide from the outside world and forget about her failures and completely forget about her urge to be a writer. "Maybe i'll just stop writing forever.. I can't write like you, Piper.. I'll never even be close" She whined softly, throwing her hands up in defeat. Piper rolls her eyes at the comment and lightly smacks her friend's thigh. "Oh shush, Keiju.. You are an absolutely amazing writer! Just because you don't write like me, doesn't mean anything!" The girl exclaimed, attempting to boost her doubtful friend's confidence. It was true that they both had completely different writing skills, but both of them were amazing. The major difference between the two writers was that one had the confidence to share her work, while the other one was too scared to even work on hers in the presence of another living soul.
Keiju shakes her head as she flips onto her stomach and pulls the blanket over her body, shielding herself from the outside would and her fear of failure. As she was wallowing in her own self pity, Piper quietly takes the girl's phone and puts in the password. She was hoping that her friend hadn't change it without her knowing, and was rather pleased when the screen unlocked, allowing her full access to Keiju's account. After giving her hidden friend a small glance, she turned her attention back to the phone and pulled up the pre typed message. Without a second of hesitation, she hit send.
The room was silent until a soft ping filled the air; the sound automatically gained Keiju's attention. That was the sound of her receiving a message from her writing app, but she was confused as to who would be messaging her at this time of night. With a soft sigh, she peeled the blanket away from her head and began searching for her phone. "Here" Piper chimed as she offered the device to Keiju. The latter mumbled a small thank you as she gently took it into her hands and began typing in her password. The first thing that caught her attention once her screen unlocked was the little red notification above the messenger icon. She tilted her head slightly as she tapped the icon and pulled up the message. 'Good job, Keiju! I definitely think this is worth a feature! I'm glad you stuck with it, love! It will be feature in about an hour!' Her hazel eyes widen in shock as her eyes began to water a bit. The one difference between now and before, as that she wasn't crying because she was sad, she was crying because she was overjoyed.
Piper tilted her head to the side a bit, worried about what had happened. "Keiju..? Are you okay..?" She questioned softly. Instead if saying anything, Keiju shakily hands her phone to her best friend and silently waits for a reaction. Piper's eyes lit up as she set the phone down and hugged the girl tightly. "See! I told you!!" Keiju smiles brightly and simply hugs her friend tighter.
