"hi wooyoung!" baekhyun yelled.
"hi baekhyun!" wooyoung yelled back, before they hugged for a few moments. they laughed for a moment, before wooyoung suddenly stopped, and started somewhere, making baekhyun confused.
"what-" "w-who's that?"
baekhyun turned around to face who wooyoung was staring at. he saw a taller boy with dark hair and blue eyes, that was talking to someone.
"him? oh, that's jaegyu. he's my older brother's friend. why do you ask?" "o-oh, nothing."
baekhyun turned back to face wooyoung, and raised an eyebrow. "it's obviously not nothing, you asked who he is. he's been around all year, how have you not noticed him?" "i-i, i don't know, he just caught my eye." "seriously, woo, tell me why you asked." "well, i-i don't know, i just thought... th-thought he was cute..."
wooyoung waited for a response but got nothing for a little bit. baekhyun paused, and finally realized something. his face suddenly lit up.
"wait, you, as in a boy, like him? you know what that may mean, right?" "no, what does it mean?"
"wooyoung, when two boys like each other, it's called gay. like, you're gay if you're a boy that likes boys." "is that a bad thing?" the child asked frantically, but baekhyun shook his head.
"have you ever liked a girl?" "n-not really, no." "well, you might, or must, be gay, then." "oh.." wooyoung muttered. he stared at the floor and shuffled around awkwardly.
baekhyun tilted his head in confusion. wooyoung almost said something else, before yunho ran up behind him and gave him a hug. "come on, guys, it's time for class! we're getting extra recess today so it'll be super fun!" he yelled. the child was in a good mood for some reason, he must've slept a lot, wooyoung thought.
the children headed to their classroom and sat down at the carpet in front of the teacher.
it was finally recess, and the entire class practically stampeded out the doors. they were full of energy, and needed to release it by running around.
wooyoung, who was still confused and a bit scared about the whole liking-a-boy situation, pulled yeosang aside to spill everything he felt. he and yeosang were close, so he trusted his brother enough to tell him.
"yeosang, i'm kind of scared. this morning, i saw a boy that i thought was cute, but i didn't know it wasn't a normal thing. baekhyun told me it means i'm gay, because i like boys, and not girls, but i don't know if that's good or not. i'm scared that i'm weird for liking boys, you know?" wooyoung explained. yeosang nodded, and they sat in silence.
little did they know, sehun overheard wooyoung.
the child, forgetting that he was warned by hongjoong himself not to bully the kids, chuckled to himself, before approaching the pair.
"you do know what happens if you're gay, right?" "what?what happens?" "i don't know, you might be upset if i tell you.." "no, please tell me! what happens if i'm gay, tell me!" wooyoung became paranoid immediately.
"i heard that if you're gay, people will hate you. i heard that people will even want to kill you."
wooyoung gasped and immediately started crying out loud. sehun snickered to himself as yunho came running to comfort his brother.
"yunho hyung, they're going to kill me!" wooyoung kicked his feet and hugged himself.
"what? what do you mean?" "them! the people! sehun told me they were gonna kill me!" "why would they kill you?" "because i'm gay!" he finally cried out, and yunho was confused. "why would they kill you for that—sehun, what did you tell him?" he started getting mad.
"i just told him the truth. people hate gays. it means you're not a man, it means you're girly."
sehun's words made wooyoung cry even harder. "hey, stop it! you're making him more upset!" yunho yelled, standing up as yeosang hugged wooyoung.
suddenly, san came running at the speed of light.
"WOOYOUNGIE! DON'T CRY! AHHH!" he screamed as he practically tackled wooyoung, causing both of them to fall into the grass while yeosang dodged san before he could tackle him as well.
sehun shrugged his shoulders and walked away, right as the bell rang and school was over.
yunho took the opportunity to run and get the parents to come comfort wooyoung, because he knew san wouldn't get up unless someone picked him up.
"mommy! daddy! come quick, wooyoung is crying!" the boy yelled. seonghwa immediately ran, as hongjoong followed confusedly since he didn't really hear what yunho had said, just bits of it.
they went through the gate and into the grass area, where san was still wrapped around wooyoung. mingi and jongho had finally gotten there, as well.
seonghwa ran up and picked up san off of wooyoung, giving him to hongjoong, then picking up and embracing the still crying child. yunho looked around for sehun, but couldn't find him, making yunho angry. he wanted to punch sehun for the words he said to wooyoung.
"wooyoung, what's wrong? don't cry, baby, it's okay.." seonghwa said. "h-he s-said i'm going-ng to b-be killed!"
"killed? who said that, and why? you aren't going to get killed, it's alright." "sehun! he said that the people are gonna kill me!" wooyoung continued crying.
hongjoong looked at yunho, waiting for a response.
"all he said was that he's gay, so 'the people' are going to kill him. i don't know the full story."
the father looked back at seonghwa, and they both sighed. "wooyoung, look at me. am i a boy or a girl?"
"y-you're mommy." "no, i mean a boy or girl?"
"w-well, you're a b-boy.. i think.. but we call you mommy, so you-" "wooyoung, i'm a boy. and what about daddy, is he a boy or a girl?" "a-a boy?" "exactly. so that means mommy and daddy are both boys, and we love each other. we haven't gotten killed because we're gay, so you won't, either. it's totally fine, you shouldn't be worried." "o-oh.. ok..." wooyoung sighed in relief.
