Beverly was incredibly overwhelmed.

Richie hadn't shown up to school, and he left her a note and money in her backpack which she found. But the next worse thing was that Eddie Kaspbrak hadn't shown up either.

She panicked when she woke up, got ready for school, and opened her backpack to read The Lighthouse, because a note attached to a few bills slipped out. She read Richie's sloppy handwriting;

To Bev,
Don't try to find out where I went. I love you, and I wish you the best. I don't know when I'll be back, but I'm taking care of someone right now. They need me, Bev, I hope you understand.
Best of luck to you, from Rich

Beverly had counted the money, too, and it was more than enough for her scheduled appointment. She was grateful for Richie being kind-hearted, however she was so worried. What was happening? When did he leave? She wished she could say thank you, but he said he'd be back, so when will he come home?

Bev spent the day with Ben, he soothed her and told her Richie would be okay. She knew that, except part of her was still going to worry. Richie was her bestest friend. Ben was her partner (they hadn't made it official that they were dating, she still liked the thought of him being her boyfriend, though). That day she felt pretty lonely at school, she smoked alone.

Beverly missed him, but decided she wouldn't try to find out where Richie went.

"Now that we're good on gas, do you want to...mess around?"

Eddie shook his head, "My ass still hurts, you fucker. Maybe tomorrow I'll feel like it." He said the last sentence quietly, but Richie could still hear it.

Richie ran a hand through Eddie's fluffy hair, and nuzzled it. Eddie huffed in annoyance but let Richie do it, scowling in the passengers seat of the car.

"You're like a little kitty cat." Richie laughed. "You're so mad all the time, but you're so..." Cute? Should I say cute? Or soft? "You're like a cat."

"Whatever, can we get back on the road again? We don't have forever to go to my dad's."

"Hey, who said we were going there?"

"Me. I'm going to my dad's, and he'll help me." Eddie crossed his arms over his chest, and glared out of the window. He needed to see his father, Sonia was a terrible mother; even though Frank was busy with 'work', he was still Eddie's dad. Eddie needed his dad.

Richie cleared his throat. "And where does he live?"

"Massachusetts." Eddie's eyes softened.

"And you think he'll help us?"

"He will." Will he? "He just...he's busy with work sometimes, but he'll help."

"Eddie," Richie's voice became a calmer, warmer tone. He stared at Eddie, who was looking out at the street in front of them. The car was parked just behind the gas station, because Richie was a horny bastard. "Are you sure that it's work?"

"The fuck are you trying to say? That he doesn't wanna make time for me?! I'm his son...he loves me." Eddie snapped, his jaw clenching in anger. It's been such a long time since anyone's ever told him 'I love you'. Such a long time...the words feel foreign.

"Then why aren't you with him right now? Look, Ed's, all I'm saying is that if he was ever really...uh, an actual father to you, then you should be living with him right now."

"Shut the fuck up! Just shut up! You don't know what you're talking about, you ignorant asshole! He gets busy, and then he..."

"He forgets about you."
