Sonia was fuming. There was practically see steam shooting from her ears. Her son was still gone. On the run. But she had also gotten a call from the police station about another missing boy, same age as Eddie, in the same high school as him. She was told that the boy, Richard Tozier, and Eddie had some kind of rivalry.
So what was her son doing with his worst enemy?
"It's been five days! Five days since my baby's been gone!!" Sonia called the Derry police once again, demanding any or all sightings of her son, if any.
Some female officer had answered her, because there were no reported sightings of Edward Kaspbrak.
"It's possible that he's been kidnapped, and taken far away. Or, Ms. Kaspbrak, he's just gone somewhere with a friend."
"None of his friends would run away with him! None of them!"
"Sonia, we're doing the best we can. Since it's been more than two days, we decided to send out missing teenager alerts to the states across the country. Alright?"
Sonia sighed, "I just want him safe."
"If- when we find him, we'll make sure he's in okay." The officer rubbed her face, growing a headache because of Sonia's annoying outbursts. If they were going to find Eddie, they had to be quick. All of the Derry police wanted Sonia off of their back- no shame in saying it: Sonia was annoying and often overreacts.
"Alright..." There was no 'thank you' or 'goodbye', Sonia just hung up the phone.
I swear to God, Eddie, Sonia thought. When you get back home...
She didn't finish the thought, but instead sat back down in her La-Z-boy, turning up the volume of the TV. When Eddie comes home, perhaps she would take him to therapy. The boy needed it, and Sonia (pretty much all of the time) wanted him off her back. The only reason she wanted him back from wherever he was, was because she didn't have the last word.
I swear to God, Eddie.

It was dark outside, nevermind the bright stars above them. Nearing about nine o'clock, as Richie was driving the Malibu again, they would not stop until morning. They were in the middle of nowhere, and had crossed into Vermont. Eddie was busy drinking a bottle of chocolate milk ("A boy needs his nutrition, Richie!"), and Richie was smoking a cigarette while driving."Stop there," Eddie said when a telephone booth came into view. There was a single street light above it, the light yellow bulb flickered.
"Need to make a call?"
"To my mom," Eddie nodded. "I'll be back-"
"No, no. I'm comin' with you, I'm going to call Beverly."
Once Richie parked right by the telephone booth, Eddie got out of the passengers seat and into the plastic tank. Closing it securely behind him, while Richie stood just outside, Eddie dialed his mother's phone number into the telephone box.
A few rings later, and she picked up.
"Who is this?"
Eddie hesitated, closing his eyes and sighing. "It's me."
Sonia heard the soft voice, knowing it belonged to her son.
"Edward! Eddie- get home this instant! I've called the police. So you better get home!"
Eddie clutched the phone to his ear, feeling a small amount of guilt for ditching his mother (like Frank did). He felt his face heat up, tears forming in his eyes as Sonia continued shouting nonsense into the phone- "Where are you, Eddie-bear?! Come home, please!"
