The fires outside burned strongly when I first found you
A new chapter opening, the previous burning away
I thought it meant fires of passion, but fire also destroys
The passion between us was stronger than any fire I'd seen
But water extinguishes fire
Maybe that was my warning
That this would not last like I wanted
But instead our chapter was cut too short
Burned away before I could revise
The rising smoke as evidence of passion and also destruction
The fire which ignited our passion, ignited my demise
Maybe that is why now I encase my heart in ice
