"Good morning," I heard as I woke up slowly. It was so bright, so I put my hand over my eyes. After a while, I looked around. Desmond was there, driving through a non-wirly road. His jacket lay on top of me, as if he had covered me with it.

"How did you sleep?" He asked, his eyes fixed on the street. "Car seats are not the best places to sleep .." I mumbled, looking at him. It seemed to me that we were completely isolated from the world, only me and Desmond. "Where are we?" I asked, sitting up. My hair was totally messed up, great.

"Somewhere in Burnaby, I think", he sighed,"We have to go much further .. and we have to change something in our looks." The dark-haired boy raised his hand and brushed back some strands of my hair. "Change looks. .? Do you want to cut off my hair?" ,I flinched and went through my hair. Desmond laughed softly:"Do you want to be recognized?"

Okay, yes, he was right. If I at least changed my appearance a bit, I would not be recognized immediately. Unfortunately, it was only now that I realized that we were basically fleeing. Like real criminals. This thought made me feel bad.

"We're going a bit further, maybe into a forest ..", he looked out of the window and turned left, "there we can park the car." "Do we have to walk then?", I sighed and looked out the window. "They could find us because of the car plate", he said. They could find us. When Desmond said that, it sounded ten times worse.

And let me tell you.

Nothing could reassure me more than Desmond's voice.

After driving a little deeper into the forest, Desmond stopped and sighed. "D-desmond?", My throat felt dry. The dark-eyed boy looked over at me: "Yes?" "How is this going to work?", I mumbled, looking straight ahead. "I'm sorry, but I can't answer that yet", he bit uncertainly on his lower lip and put out the key.

"Will you give me the lighter there?", He pointed to his jacket pocket. Hesitating, I nodded and began to dig in his jacket pocket. "Here", I handed it to him. After I handed it to him, he got out and gave me the hand signal to come to him.

Of course, I got out immediately. Desmond had something very affecting about him. It impressed me how to convince people so quickly.

Desmond ran around the car and took out of the trunk a reserve jerry can. With a jerk, he opened it and started pouring over the car.

"What do you think— what are you— what are you doing!", I stammered shocked and took a step back. "It's safer that way", there it was again. His influencing voice.

A few times I took a deep breath and looked out, if I had everything I needed in my pocket, because I had not taken a lot.

In addition, I felt complete. With him.

The dark-haired boy ran up to me: "Any last words?" "Do you want to burn me or what?", I laughed uncertainly. "To the car," he rolled his eyes and pointed to the car with his hand holding the lighter.

Even if it was just a car, it had so many memories in it. For example, when my dad and I assembled the car together, or when we drove zoé home because she was not feeling well when she wanted to stay overnight with me. These were just two of the memories of many. And it hurt that I would just burn them.

"I'm sorry, Dad," I mumbled, looking at the car. Desmond sighed softly and annoyed, after which he threw the lighter on the hood of the car.

A few seconds later, the car was full of flames. Desmond pulled me back a bit so none of the flames caught me. "It's only for your best. For our best", I saw him smile out of the corner of my eye.

Slowly I looked at him. The light of the flames was reflected in his dark eyes. A soft smile lay on his lips and his gentle hand held mine.

Then he looked at me. He probably noticed that I was looking at him, so I quickly looked down.

"Oh Riley", he lifted my chin and pulled me closer. I didn't breathe for a moment. His dark eyes met mine. I could feel his warm and sweet breath on my goosebumped skin. Would that be my first kiss? With him? Desmond? What is happening here?

Desmond smiled slightly and chuckled softly.

"You're really bad at flirting", he released my chin and turned around. "W-what," I stammered, barely audible. "Come on, we have to walk a long way."

What an ass. But well..what can I say. Breaking rules was his thing.
