We spent the next half hour, panicking and trying to come up with a plan. "WHERE DID YOU SEE THEM LAST?" Sophia-Marie half screamed at Tam. "I DON'T KNOW, THEIR HOUSE MAYBE," Tam yelled in response.
After another ten minutes of yelling and chaos, we heard a muffled slam coming from downstairs. "Hey! You guys up there?" I heard a familiar voice yell. We all rushed downstairs to see Sophie, Fitz, and Keefe all standing in front of us, holding cups of different colors. "WHERE WERE YOU GUYS?" Tam screamed. "Oh us? We were in the Forbidden Cities getting this... this... what do you call it? Buckle juice?" Keefe replied. I looked at the cups closer. Inside of the colorful cups were actually liquids with tapioca pearls in them. "Bubble tea," I corrected. Kelly stared at them. "You had us all in a panic just because you wanted to get bubble tea?" Fitz blinked. "Sounds about right." Tam sighed. "Why am I friends with you guys again?" "Because we're awesome!" Keefe said, resulting in another sigh from Tam.
After explaining everything to a frantic Edaline and Grady, we all sat in silence in Sophie's room. "So uh... what flavors did you guys get?" Sophia-Marie said. "Seriously?" I asked. "That's how you're starting this conversation?" Sophia-Marie scowled at me. "I'm just trying to break the silence! Not my fault I'm so bad at being social. And you shouldn't be getting mad at me! You're the same way!" She retorted. I dropped my gaze to the ground. I needed to stop letting my temper get the best of me. Sophie broke the awkward silence. "Well, uh.. I got strawberry, Fitz got Mocha, and Keefe got... what the heck is that?" Keefe grinned. "I don't know. I just got the most colorful one. It tastes awesome! Wanna try?" "Uhh, no thanks," Sophie replied. It was silent again for a few minutes. "Well.... what now?" Callan asked, suddenly appearing out of the shadows. "Gah!" I yelped. "Callan, you're a shade?" Kelly said, clearly puzzled. "Yeah! Just discovered it while you guys were freaking out over Sophie and Fitz and Keefe!" Sophie blushed. "Uh, that's great? Please stop mentioning our disappearances." Ryan suddenly sat up. "How about we try to find what everyone's ability is?" Sophia-Marie frowned. "But- what if they don't activate, or-" "Shhh..." Ryan shushed Sophia-Marie. "It's worth a try. Ok! We already know that Luisa and Callan are shades so... Kelly! You go first!" She frowned. "What am I supposed to do?" Ryan shrugged. "I dunno, try telepathy first." She closed her eyes and concentrated. After about twenty seconds, both Kelly and Callan gasped in unison. "I'm a telepath?" They both cried at the same time. Sophie looked at them with wide eyes. "Huh, surprising." Keefe dropped his glass of water, which he had traded his bubble tea for, out of surprise. "Watch out!" I yelped. Instinctively, I reached my hand out, as if to grab it, even though I was nowhere near the glass. What happened after was equally surprising. The glass fell to the ground and shattered... but the water was still floating in midair, controlled by my very own hand. I gasped and clasped my hands around my mouth as the water fell to the ground and splashed everywhere. "H-hydrokinesis?" Fitz mumbled. Linh blinked. "Wow," she said. "Another hydrokinetic, huh? I fumbled for words. Keefe forced a smile. "Well, uh... that happened. Moving on? Ryan, it's your turn, I guess." Ryan snapped out of his thoughts. "Uh... I'll test for technopath first, seeing it's what I was really good at back in the huma-Forbidden Cities." I fished through my pocket for a few seconds before pulling out my old iPod. "It broke yesterday. Everything's glitching. Think you can fix it?" I asked Ryan. He took the old broken down iPod. "I can try..." he responded, unsure. He tinkered with it for a minute and handed it back to me. "It should work now." I turned the device on, and there it was. Glitch free and running 20x better than it used to. "Woah," I murmured. He grinned. "Guess I am a technopath, huh." Before we could continue, Marella burst in. "Sophie!" She gasped, out of breath. "There's another moonlark! I just brought her." We all glanced at each other. Another? How many moonlarks are there? Marella glanced behind her. "Oh- she came up. Hey guys, meet Hannah." The girl who emerged behind Marella shocked everyone. Hannah? Kelly spoke up first. "Woah, woah woah. You're basically telling me that almost all of our friend group is secretly elves?" Fitz glanced between Kelly and Hannah. "You know each other?" "Yeah," Ryan said. "She's our friend." Hannah just stood there in shock, startled that we were all there together. "I- I thought you were dead? Wh-why didn't you tell me anything? I was so worried, I-" Kelly cut her off. "Sorry Hannah.... it was all right really sudden. But I mean, we're all together now, right?" Her betrayed glare softened into an accepting gaze. "Yeah.... I guess...." she responded.
After catching up on what was happening in the real world, Callan suddenly thought of something. "Hey Sophie... If we're elves, how come we weren't super ahead of our classes?" Sophie turned to him. "Well you see, your brains were "programmed" to keep your knowledge limited until we activated it, which we did.... without your knowledge. We did this so you would stay as average pre-teens, and live normal lives until you were old enough. You know, to protect you from bullying and all that." "Ohh," Callan said. "Hey Hannah, do you know your ability yet?" "Yeah...." Hannah responded. "It's-"
TBC!
Haha, surprise! An update! Yes I know I "discontinued it" but I might update occasionally... but I'll never say when, so it'll always be a surprise! Anyway, I added Hannah! Excited? And hey! Longest chapter ever, just to make this surprise extra special :)
Hah. Drama over bubble tea.
