The next morning I am sat in the library reading a book with my cat, Hamish, sat on my lap when suddenly Sebastian bursts in through the doors. I cast my eyes upward for a couple of seconds, before returning to my book.

"Why aren't you in the study for your lessons?" He demands, curtly. I look up and notice that he looks less than amused by the situation.

"Hamish wanted me to read to him" I point down to the sleeping ball of black, fluffy fur that is occupying my lap. Sebastian's eyes widen like a child's at Christmas.

"You have a c-cat?" He asks. His voice sounding quite peculiar. I nod and smile down at Hamish, fondly stroking the backs of his ears.

"He's beautiful, isn't he?" I respond, still smiling down at Hamish. Hamish purrs contently and a smile spreads across his face. His eyes remaining closed in kitty bliss. A shadow falls upon me and I glance up to see Sebastian with his hands clasped together, staring fondly at Hamish.

"He's adorable" Sebastian smiles, earning a respective meow from Hamish.

"I'm guessing that you like cats" I ask, laughing at the situation around me. His smile widens and he nods emphatically. Once again I chuckle nervously at the situation that I am in at the moment.

I am now sat in the study, writing down notes as Sebastian talks at lightning speed. Hamish is perched on a stack of books next to me, purring contentedly in a blissful sleep. Once Sebastian has finished reeling off facts, I scribble the last sentence hurriedly and let out a sigh of relief as I drop my quill and rest my hand.

"I think I have a cramp in my hand, Sebastian" I state, massaging my sore hand with a comical frown placed on my features. He glances at me before chuckling quietly, causing me to tilt my head minimally in confusion. "What's so funny?" I demand.

"That was all nonsense and had nothing to do with Mathematics" He laughs and I cast my gaze down to my notes to see that he is right. The sentences make no sense at all. I slam my right hand down on the wooden desk, causing my quill to snap.

"If you're not going to teach me properly, then don't teach me at all" I cross my arms and look at the clock. "Anyway, its time for my dance class. I'll be going now" And with that I stand and make my way towards the exit.

However, when I reach for the handle of the door Sebastian is stood there. Somewhat close for one to be comfortable. My hand brushes his hand before I recoil backwards in shock. My eyebrows furrow in confusion and anger.

"Please, move away from the door" I ask, gritting my teeth together and wearing a fake smile.

"I'm afraid I can't do that. My lord has ordered me to watch after you at all times and ensure that you are safe" Sebastian replies, smirking down at me.

"Well, you can escort me to my dance lessons then" I reply, turning the door knob and opening he door once he has stepped out of the way. I walk down the corridor. My gloved hands clasp each other as I lose myself in thought.

Why did Ciel instruct Sebastian to guard me?

There must be some plausible reason. Is it to do with the fire on my family's estate? Whatever it is I am going to question my young cousin about it tonight.

.....................................................................................

"So, Ciel, do you mind telling me why you ordered Sebastian to guard me?" I ask Ciel whilst we are playing Chess. Sebastian has just left the room, so this is my chance to get some answers from my little cousin. Ciel's jaw drops and his visible eye widens.

"I didn't order Sebastian to do any such thing" He replies, steadily moving one of his pawns forward.

"Then, why did he say you had? And then follow me around all day?" I question, causing Ciel to drop his piece. His eyebrows furrow in anger and his jaw tightens.

"I told him not to do this. It's because he knows what she is" Ciel snarls quietly under his breath.

"What did you tell him not to do? Who is what?" I stare at him in bewilderment, waiting for him to answer.

"Oh, it's nothing. Doesn't matter" He shrugs just as the door opens; and Sebastian walks in with a tray full of cake and tea. I exhale angrily and decide to drop the subject.

"So be it, cousin. But you're keeping secrets from me and I will get to the bottom of this" I whisper, so that only Ciel can hear the words that I utter. I put on a smile as Sebastian hands me a cup of Earl Grey and a slice of Victoria sponge cake, noticing that his eyes flash red for the second that they lock with mine. Blinking multiple times, I turn back towards the chess board and move my knight swiftly.

"It seems that you have put me in checkmate once again, Ophelia" Ciel smiles, sipping his tea.

"Oh, you've never been able to beat me at chess, Ciel. Though I think we're both equal when it comes to dancing skills" I laugh, casting my memory back to our dancing lessons earlier. My instructor was ill, so Sebastian more than happily stepped in. Needless to say by the end of the lesson I doubt he had any feeling left in his toes, or any toes for that matter. I was constantly stepping on his toes and falling over. It was a nightmare, but Ciel was equally as bad.

"Well... you used to be able to dance, what happened to the poise and grace that you used to have on the dancefloor?" Ciel asks. His eyebrows raised.

"I don't know. It hasn't been the same since the fire. It's like I can't dance without papa" I reply. My voice distant as I stare out of the window. The rain falls heavily on the dark Phantomhive estate and a single, solitary tear slides down my cheek. Upon hearing someone gasp, I immediately turn my head and hurriedly wipe my face clean.
