The next morning, Lily woke up feeling good—until she realized that Bucky's previous spot on her bed was empty. It wasn't warm anymore, so he might've been gone for a few hours. In panic, she covered herself with a blanket and ran out of the room, calling Bucky's name repeatedly. She tried to deny that he was gone—maybe he was just exercising or something—but deep down she knew that he was gone.
She double-checked every room, every part of the house until she was out of breath and had to take a break. The girl sat down on the living room couch and started tearing up. Although Bucky was usually quiet, this time the house was way quieter in an odd way—it felt vacant. She tried doing everyday tasks like showering and eating breakfast, but as she poured the cereal she kept staring at the empty seat across the table. The picture of Bucky eating his breakfast in that very spot instantly brought her to tears. Losing her appetite, she went back into her bedroom and lied on her bed. She decided to skip work that day.
Raj kept calling and texting her, but she didn't feel like talking to anyone at the moment; so she turned off her phone and buried her face in the pillow Bucky used—which still smelled like him. Her tears quickly wet the pillowcase and she kept crying, hoping to just disappear rather than to feel this huge amount of pain—until she got tired and fell asleep.
It was already dark outside when she got woken up by a loud sound. Apparently someone was banging on the door, and she could hear Raj's voice just straight up screaming outside. Her head was aching and her eyes were swollen from all of the crying.
"Medusa, turn on the lights, please. Just let Raj in," said she, lying back on the bed. Soon Raj rushed in, making a lot of noise with the sound of his heavy boots and his concerned voice calling her.
"Lily? Where are you?" He finally found his way into Lily's bedroom and it took him a few moments to realize that the messy pile on the bed was the girl he was looking for. "What happened? Why did you skip work?"
He sat on the bed beside her and shook her shoulders, forcing her to answer him. "Are you sick or something?" He practically yelled on her face, so she had no choice but to open her eyes to see Raj's worried eyes staring back at her.
"He left," she answered hoarsely. "He's gone."
"Who's he?" Raj snapped. The last time he saw Lily in this condition was when she broke up with Simone—and the next thing she did was throw a vase at her ex; and even though she missed, it still resulted in a catastrophe and Raj didn't want his best friend to go through all that again.
"You won't believe me if I told you," the girl replied without a care in the world and rolled back to continue her sleep, but he forced her to get into a sitting position. Since she felt weak, she simply went along with it.
"Have you even eaten today?" His question was answered with a mere grunt and she shook her head weakly. "Let's go and eat somewhere. You'll feel better after filling up your stomach." He pulled her hands to get out of bed and they walked slowly to his car. He looked at her as she weakly put her seatbelt on—she looked like a complete mess. It was a rare sight—she was usually a reserved person—so he knew something really significant must have happened.
They were silent the whole time until they arrived in their favorite karaoke bar. It was a weeknight, so it wasn't crowded. Raj guided Lily into the bar and they sat on their usual booth. He ordered scotch eggs and a big bottle of vodka—just like they always order as a comfort meal when something bad had happened.
"So," he started the conversation. "Tell me all about what happened. Who's he? You didn't tell me anything about any guy lately." He poured the vodka into shot glasses for both of them, which Lily gulped down instantly. She cringed when the alcohol burned her throat, yet feeling a little bit better as it seeped into her system.
