The low sounds of the chaotic city erupted around them - they were the shouts of the unknown - the silent terror of an unnatural distortion of the balance they once knew. They hadn't even known the half of what was to come, but it was fast approaching. Although the streets of Manhattan seemed to be unaffected by the events of the club, things were about to become blindingly more apparent for the four women.
They burst through the back alley exit in order to avoid the growing crowd. Despite barely knowing what they had been running from, no one asked any questions until they were safely outside, the cool air of the city greeting them at the door.
Out of breath, and dizzy, Marseille staggered in her stride, struggling to stand straight. The bright street lights were a polar contrast from the club; the motion in combination with the artificial lights were enough to hurt her already sensitive eyes. In addition, her chest was burning like a furnace, as if heartburn had been the culprit. Given her rather healthy lifestyle, this somewhat concerned her.
"Eroni! Wait a damn minute!" Roxanne huffed while they stopped in search of a direction to go in. By the looks of it, Eroni was acting like she was delusional and to make matters worst, she started laughing like she was going mad. She was starting to really worry the other girls. They'd never seen her so shaken up before.
"What did you see back there?" Janelle wondered while they all stopped in their tracks and took hold of Roni's arm to see if she could possibly calm her down, but as soon as she had, Roni's eyes filled with tears.
"It was more than seeing, it was like I got this feeling, deep in my gut. Screaming that it was real," She said shaking her head as if it might allow her to will away the images. They kept walking, as she spoke, reaching the end of the alley and walked out onto the sidewalk.
"What was it Eroni?" Janelle pressed, her curiosity sparked.
"There was a woman, she wasn't looking too well like she was about to pass out, but then I saw her eyes..." she trailed off, hugging herself tightly as her eyes stayed glued to the ground.
"Her eyes?" Marseille stepped closer to the pair, also curious as to what could make her friend react this way.
"She bit the guy trying to help her up, and she didn't let go. She started to devour his arm. I've never seen anything like that in my entire life, but then she got a glimpse of me, her eyes...they were empty like her soul wasn't attached to her body or something. I just- I know what I saw, and my gut was telling me to get out right now," she rambled, shuddering blatantly.
"Well, what do we do now?" Janelle asked quietly, regretting the decision to wear heels as the soles of her feet began to ache.
"Get as far away from here as possible. I'm telling you, something's not fucking right," Eroni suggested, more than enthusiastically.
"Jack! You're bleeding-" just as Roxanne was about to consider Roni's suggestion and call an Uber, they all looked out across the street to find two males. Their voices carried over the bustling of the darkening city, gaining the girl's attention with all the ruckus they had been making.
