"Enough, Eric! We've discussed this!" My mother screams. They are fighting. They never fight.
I'm suppose to be sleeping, but the baby is crying again. My blankie drags on the floor behind me as I quietly creep closer. My hand wraps around the wall, as I peek over at them.
"Elizabeth, you are the one who's with another man!" What does that mean?
"Eric, this isn't working! You know it isn't!"
"Elizabeth, I married you because I loved you!"
"We were twenty! Ugh your such a..." Mommy called Daddy a bad word. I feel a single tear drip down my face. I watch as my father swears back at her. Is this what it is like at Aphmau's house? She says her mummy and daddy fight all the time. My father says something I can't quite hear.
"GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!" My mother roars. I flinch.
"YOU GET OUT OF MINE! GO. LEAVE US. RUN OFF TO WHATS HIS FACE!!" I feel tears rush down my face.
"YOUR AN AWFUL!!!'"Smack. The sound of my mother's hand hitting my father's cheek echos. I drop my blanket.
"Daddy!" I cry out, running towards them.
"Katie," my mother says. I look up at her, eyes flashing.
"Don't hit my Daddy!" My father picks me up.
"Sweet Pea, I'm sorry you had to see that." He holds me tight. "Get out Elizabeth. Now."
"Fine, your all against me anyways," she snaps. I lean my head against my father's chest. He hugs me.
I wake up panting, to thin arms wrapped around me. I take a deep breath. It's just a dream. A dream that really happened.
Travis's arms tighten. His arms are literally thin sticks. No muscle what so ever. I smile, eyes closing. This is perfect. Travis is always giving hugs, even in his sleep. One of the many things I love about him. He shares his feelings so easily, the opposite of me. I turn to face him, struggling because of his tight grip. When I see first see him, my smile widens. His hair sticks up messily and drool drips on to the pillow. It's like I have two babies, not one.
"Aren't you a cutie?" I murmur. I kiss his forehead, gently. I love waking up to this. I see the emerald eyes flicker open.
"Katie?"
"Sup, loser," I say affectionately. He smiles.
"Morning, stupid." It didn't take us long to go back to our old nicknames. It was awkward when we first met again, but now... now it's like I never left. Almost. I know why he holds so tight, why he's always hugging me. I push that thought out of my mind. It's been months now. Months.
"You know what day it is, right?" I ask him, my smile widening.
"Shopping day?" He says sleepily. Well he's not wrong. Usually, it is. He closes his eyes again.
"No, dummy. Here's a hint. My dad and Kasey are coming. So is Laurence and Garroth and the others."
"Kasey's birthday?" He murmurs. I roll my eyes.
"No. Come on Travis. Use that brain, love."
Love. I adore calling him loser and that. It's like a tradition for us. But he calls me his Fire Girl, his Katie-Kat, and Sweet. So I call him Love. It's my name for him.
I try to sit up. He pulls me down. He hugs me tighter, pulling me closer.
"I don't know, Sweets. Tell me!" He whispers in my ear. His nose brushes the top my ear, his breath tickling my ear.
Oh Irene, I love him.
"It's Abby's birthday." My voice lightens at the end. One year. One year since my baby, my Mija, my little one was born. And three months until I met Travis again.
This time Travis is the one to bolt up, the bed creaking.
"Your serious?"
I laugh. He looks so alarmed.
"Yes. Why are you so surprised?"
"It cannot of been nine months. No." I snuggle closer to him.
"It has. It does feel like yesterday doesn't it?" It truly does. Time flys so fast. Aph and Aaron got married. Kacey graduated. Donna had a baby girl, Leelo, Alina turned four and now, Abby is one.
"Gosh it like having two Alina's." His voice is full of shock.
"They are both growing up so fast." A question breed in my mind as he puts his arm around me. "How did you forget Abby's birthday? You helped plan the party?" He blushes.
"I... I... didn't really focus on the when, just the what," he admits. I laugh again.
"You are so cute."
Before I can say another word, I little shout.
"Maaaaamaaaaaaa! Maaaaamaaaaaa!" Travis turns to me. The birthday girl is awake.
"Your on baby duty. I'm making breakfast," he commands. We alternate who does which. It's a good system. I like it. Just like I like him. No, I love him.
My Irene, I am cringy in my thoughts. Good thing no one else can hear them.
"Aye, aye, captain," I say. I scooch out from under the warm blankets, just now noticing the pitter patter of the March rain on the roof. Travis yawns, stretching out his little arms. He jumps out of bed. I'm so excited today is one of his good days. All days are pretty good, some are better than others.
As we exit our small room, he stands on his tippy toes to kiss my forehead.
"Why do you have to be so tall?" He mutters. I stick out my tongue. We are kinda like Aaron and Aphmau, except vice versa. Also, I am nowhere near as tall as Aaron, who's six foot six, being only five eleven. It's a big seven inch gap. I really want to hit six feet, but I probably won't. Travis is only five foot seven, taller than Aph who's four ten. If you ask her, she's five. If you measure her, she's not.
I kiss his forehead easily.
"Show off," he mutters. I laugh again. As he heads off to the kitchen and I to Abby's room, all I can think about is how good of a day it's going to be.
It's going to be great.*****
First chapter, what do you think? I like this one because it's simple and peaceful. Trust me, drama coming soon. Can't leave these two at peace. I'm so excited to write this. Expect the first chapter of Younger coming soon!
What did you like more, the first chapter of Too Young or this one?
Hope you enjoy!!
