Love is Hell

A man is secretly in love with a girl, but she loves his best friend. They end up married and the man only wishes them to be happy, even though he still loves her. The friend dies in a tragic accident, widowing the girl. Ends up in a platonic committed relationship with her, raising her and the best friend's child that she was pregnant with when he died.

Man's own guilt at his impure thoughts of still wanting her and in some way being glad his friend died lead him to self-harm. Pops drugs to kill his libido, and to make him forget. Hides it from her and the child. Struggling alone. Overdosed and dies. Desperate not to leave her alone again to raise the child by herself. Makes a bargain with a devil, becomes immortal, but it fuels his baser instincts, makes him want the girl even more and feeds his dark thoughts about being happy his friend is dead. Whenever he gets overwhelmed with lust for her, or his thoughts get out of hand, he "kills" himself (often by drinking house cleaners) to force his body to regenerate and "reset." His eyes change color with his "need." Normally a pale silvery-blue, when he's in need they turn to a dark turquoise then to a darker blue/green. The magic powering his immortality is blue in color.

Doesn't realize the regeneration process has a cost One time he doesn't regenerate properly, blisters form and rupture, leaking raw magic. Draws devils from the other realm to feed on it and they drag him into their realm. Has to fight his way back to the physical realm.
