"Everybody to the living room! Chop chop!" Chase yelled, banging pots and pans together despite the early morning hour. His hair was even more messier than usual, if possible, and he seemed very adamant about something being discussed. Six people living in one apartment was always chaos. Eden and Sage stumbled out of their room wrapped up in a huge, fluffy blanket together. They somehow managed to make it to the couch without falling on their faces. Brynn emerged from the hidden loft behind the girls' bedroom door. It was originally meant to be a spacious pantry, but somehow Brynn made it work. Kai entered the living room with a scowl on his face. This seemed to be his default expression. Finally, Leo arrived and sat on the kitchen stool expectantly. Their apartment seemed really big once they first toured the place. But before they knew it, there was furniture crammed everywhere and it started to feel extremely claustrophobic.
It wasn't always supposed to be this way. It just sort of happened. It was originally Eden's apartment. It was a gift from her parents. But it didn't make sense for her to have it all to herself. She had just graduated high school, and she figured everyone was searching for a place to stay. So, as Eden would do, she invited a friend. A friend eventually turned into four other jealous friends. Eden felt bad, so she invited them all. Boy, was that a mistake. Eden was one of those people that you couldn't help but smile at. She was just so nice. She radiated happiness, and to the unknowing eye, she seemed perfect. She was born into a well-off family, but she refused to turn into one of those girls who begged their daddy for anything and everything. She wrote her own destiny, as she would often tell people. (Said people would nod along to this statement, but they truly had no idea what this meant. People couldn't help but to agree with whatever she said.)"What is so important this time, Chase?" Brynn asked, impatiently. Brynn was the resident mom of the house. She always had these unbelievable stories to tell, and she seemed to be always there for everyone. A shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen. More often than not, she always returned home with multiple thrift shopping bags undoubtedly filled with clothes she most definitely did not need.
"I'll have you know that this issue affects each and every one of us in this household." Chase said, with that certain twinkle in his eye that ensured that this issue was completely and utterly stupid. Everyone groaned, for they all knew what was going to come next. "What? I'm really not kidding this time." Chase said, seriously.
"Can you please just get on with it?" Leo chimed in. Leo was the quiet one of the group and it was really easy to forget he was there sometimes. He always had earbuds in, and he was rarely seen without them.
Chase made a big show of clearing his throat before releasing the big news. "Well, I woke up this morning to, y' know, skim the fridge. I just wanted to make some breakfast, and I wanted to check what we had. I open the fridge, and guess what I see?" Chase asked, expecting us to answer back. An awkward silence ensued. Kai broke the silence.
"I freaking swear." Kai said, getting ready to punch the daylights out of Chase.
Chase turns around, and picks up a empty plate. He holds it out for everyone to see, and everyone inched forward in their seat to get a closer look. There were tiny, brown crumbs scattered on the plate. Everyone had blank expressions on their face. Chase looks at them, exasperatedly. "The-the-the plate. Are you looking at the plate? Are you seeing those crumbs mocking you?" He asked, his eyes widening even wider with every word he uttered. "They're going 'hahahahaha! We are the evil crumbs and we are going to destroy you!'" Chase said, in a voice that a four year old would have. Silence filled the room.
"Chasey, what are you getting at?" Eden asked, softly.
Chase looked as if he was about to explode, but the others were frankly oblivious. "The chocolate cake is gone! Who ate the last piece of cake?!" Chase screamed, hysterically. Kai slowly rose up, and it seemed as if the whole room tensed. Kai suddenly tried to make a run for it, but Brynn was one step ahead of him. She had a death grip on his calf muscle and her nails were digging into his skin.
"You are a disgrace to this house! Get him!" Brynn yelled. Everyone started jumping onto Kai and they all started to kick him in anger.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry! Truce!" Kai groaned underneath all the weight. No one paid attention to his desperate pleas. Chocolate cake was a serious deal on 701 Mulberry Street.
