4: Finding Them

Ruth's P.O.V

  I walked out of Sheriff Houston's office and to the town square. I had a conversation with him about the attempted murder. He told me that he thought it was me because I live at the Inn along with the people who stay there. Amelia is staying because her house is being repaired. I don't have a house, I thought it would be a good idea to live there. I wouldn't have to keep moving in to my house and in to the Inn. Houston told me some people heard what sounded like my shoes moving near the stairs. I was working near the stairs that night. I would never hurt anyone. I was meeting Houston at the square because he was going to have a speech about the murder and wanted me there.

Houston's P.O.V

I just want this dumb case to be over. The mayor needs to rest, so do I, but I need it to pass over. I don't want people getting scared and leaving do I?

I walk to the square and see Ruth. I have to get her for this. I know she did it because Ruth has always been a sassy person, she could have murdered someone. That being why she is it.

"Everyone listen up!" My dear friend seth as he gets everyone's attention. I walk forward as Seth goes and stands next to Etta and Stella. Me, Stella, and Etta along with Seth are great friends. Stella and Etta used to be slaves on the same plantation in North Carolina. Me and Seth were on the same plantation in Tennessee. The two girls ran to the north to escape and after the war ran to Texas. The same for me and Seth, but Seth escaped and I didn't. Etta had long brown hair and green earrings. Her eyes were a light brown, hazel color. She wore a light gray, but kinda green dress. Stella has short hair that is pulled up in the back. She has Brown eyes and she wore a black dress. "I believe that Ruth Davis is the murderer that tried to kill the new Nelly Peterson." I spoke and there were gasps. I looked out to see Nelly and Jack standing next to each other. I sigh, "I believe this because she was at the same place as the murder. The other thing is that she was working by the stairs that night!" I yell the last part. Everyone gasp except Nelly and Jack. I guess she told Jack about the accusation. "We will have a vote to see who you y'all believe it is!" Then a person from the crowd spoke "I BELIEVE THAT THE PERSON IS JACK!" everyone gasped. "Why would I try to kill my friend?" he spoke with a sad look on his face. "Yes, I trust that Jack won't kill me he is my friend." Nelly put her opinion out there. "The murderer could be Amelia!" someone else said. "OR LUCY!" someone else spoke. "Or-" I cut off the last person. "WE WILL HAVE A VOTE TO SEE WHO IS THE MURDERER." I rose my voice to tell everyone.

They closed their eyes so we can vote. After the vote everyone picked....Ruth. "The person with the most vote is.......RUTH DAVIS." I told everyone. "We will execute her in one day." I told everyone. I sighed and headed to talk to Etta, Seth, and Stella. "I think the murderer is Stella." Seth said mockingly. Stella gasped and Etta laughed. "Ya! She couldn' kill a fly!" Etta laughed. I looked at Stella, she had a look I will never forget. She looked like her deepest darkest secret was out. Soon she laughed and said "I agree." She said and we walked away.
